Jed
This thread should be renamed as NO Justice for Tango. This is just so sad and flies in the face of common sense! Have to agree with that. Breed bans are just plain wrong. Grieve for the 10,000 + dogs killed because they were judged to be the "wrong breed". Nothing will make that right. Ever If amstaffs are pitbulls, boxers are bulldogs, cocker spaniels are springer spaniels, right?
RottnBullies
Nobody has handed the BSL brigade a registered breed on a plate WTF!! I guess people have short memories here and forget how many fed the APBT to the wolves to save their own I'm appalled at some of the comments here from dog lovers
RottnBullies
Evidence provided by the applicant (Ms Chivers) has potentially ruined an entire ANKC registered breed (The Amstaff). For those here who have had input into the "Tango" case. Do us all a favor, if a full bench Supreme Court appeal is granted, don't drag any other purebred ANKC registered breeds into the case and put them into a precarious position as what's been done to the Amstaff. Thanks How about YOU do us all a favor and keep your Ignorant comments to yourself It's so easy there sitting at your computer and pointing fingers, about the only thing you're remotely good at
chrisjc
some of you ANKC people have your head stuck so far up your arse you wouldnt know if it was night or day. all you do is blame blame blame, point point point , then wash your hands of it like it never happened. if you dont want to be of aid crawl back behind your rock and stay there. i swear some of you sit back and laugh like the wicked witch of the west with these situations rubbing your hands together. just remember this, karma is a bitch. And yet, you expect the ANKC, despite your attitude, to defend dogs outside its register when their owners are not members? Nice one Chris. Join up, pay your money and maybe then you might be taken seriously. Right now you want all the benefits of membership with none of the responsiblities. I'll continue to do what I can to oppose BSL. It will despite the attitudes of those personally affected, not because of them. Edited April 7, 2010 by poodlefan
tybrax
dear doG in heaven! just listen to us.. we are supposedly dog lovers and are arguing like a pack of fools.. when BSL was originally introduced many peopole were perfectly happy as they indeed thought it would only affect those nasty misbegotten fighting dogs owned by tattooed yobbos ( afterall the other breeds banned were not common here) . i called around many organisations ssing their views on BSL it it was always "pitbulls who in their right mind would want toown one of the slavering killers? when you can have your choice of any other lovely breed"... their words not mine... iwould gaze down at myjake and fear for his life.most choose to believe that this is a good thing eradicate pitbulls.... and complacently believe that it would not spread certainly not to ANKC registered breeds! well lookee now it has.. ask yourselves where will it stop????????????? act together for all dogs regardless of breed that it the only way to have any hope of commonsense returning this is a sad day for responsible dog people Helen Top post. They lost on all three accounts, Tango is an Amstaff, the checklist is invalid, and there are no experts. They did not contest any of it, this is what the fight was over. The councils were the ones that added the submission stating the amstaff is a pit bull. tybrax

Fight on, but no dog is safe until we end BSL, and as an ANKC Breed owner I am thankful that so many mutt owners joined the fight, we should be fighting for all dogs not just our own narrow view of which breed is more entitled to live than others. No dog is more entitled than other. Widen the divide between them and us with all your bitching and breedist comments, but mean while all dogs are in firing line, and if you are expecting to be safe in your own little corner you are fooling yourself. So stop pointing fingers as you know nothing He has a right to live just as any other dog, step in their shoes and tell us what you would have done?? If you dare to criticise tactics you get abused, bit hard to feel sorry for those that drive away people that want to help them save their dogs. No I wasn't offended but all the accusations and anger really don't help the dogs. You really don't want to be alienating fence sitters because they have the capacity to jump either way. Have a good think about what people expect of the ANKC with regard to this issue although if the AST is going to be drawn into BSL, my very strong hope is that the organisation will enter the fray. No one wants dogs to die (or at least that is my very sincere hope). But its hard when people break the law or buy unpapered dogs when the ramifications of doing that are dire for the dog and are totally predictable. The biggest hope for overturning BSL in Qld lies with the RSPCA. People need to learn to be civil and argue facts and to lobby the organisation with the power and influence to get changes made. chrisjc
personally i realy dont expect anything from the ANKC, theyve done nothing for me or my breed , but thats not the point. a couple of people on here have stated that even though now the Amstaff may be in trouble even as an ANKC breed they can dig themselves out of it, and that sickens me. thats the attitude that helps not a single person. they have even said if it doesnt have ANKC papers then bad luck, yet 90% of ANKC breeders will hapily take $900 off a buyer for a non papered dog. if that is the attitude why sell the non papered dogs? they should be culled if they realy feel that way, BUT then they would be some times upto $3000 down on a litter of pups if they didnt suit what they wanted. very very peddler like if you ask me. what will happen if it was their dog in the spotlight? they would be begging all the others they could to help their beloved breed. i will sit back and write letters and do what i can to help this current situation for one reason, i wish they would do it if i was in the same situation. whippets
my post was generated towards you whippets and no one else. yeah whatever. Misplace blame on "people like me". I don't care. I wasn't the one that provided evidence that put Amstaffs in the same basket as APBT's. That curtesy goes to Ms Chivers.

The biggest hope for overturning BSL in Qld lies with the RSPCA. People need to learn to be civil and argue facts and to lobby the organisation with the power and influence to get changes made. I think that is very well said PF, though given that the vast majority of dogs in Australia are unpapered I do think that some people buy unpapered dogs merely out of ignorance. A lot of people think "papers" are what you get from council. Add to that the fallout from PDE and there is a whole bunch of people who think that crossbred upapered dogs are the way to go. I am not surprised that there has managed to be a court ruling that Amstaffs are Pitbulls, you only have to look at some of the public comments on the various media websites to see that the "pitbull" myth has been well and truly disseminated to include all bull breeds or anything that remotely ressembles a bull breed. In parts of the US the term pitbull includes, staffordshire bull terriers, Amstaffs and pitbulls, registered or unregistered. In France staffordshire bull terriers (registered ones) are considered a guarding breed (wtf?) and are supposed to wear a muzzle in public. I believe bull breeds are totally banned in Germany (registered or unregistered). If the BSL train carries on its momentum and goes in the direction of some US states/councils or European countries, I don't think being a pedigree is going to matter. It does make me fearful for the future of dogs.
