W Sibs
Just a quick question... is human toothpaste good for dogs? Last night I fed Charlie sardines and to my shocking surprise.. he ate it and not just one fish about a tinful of it!. Anyway, the boyfriend HATES fish, especially the smell of it. So, Charlie had kinda a fishy breath afterwards... so the boyfriend decided to brush his teeth using a little bit of colgate. I didn't know what was happening till I heard the boyfriend say 'come on, son, i'll let you lick my face after i brush your teeth!'
OMD²
You can get dog toothpaste I brush Oscar and Dudes teeth after they have eaten something gross... You can get it in different flavours as well.. I use the chicken one hehehe As for the human toothpaste I wouldn't use it.. They might ingest some and that's not good

W Sibs
ok thanks guys!! The boyfriend assured me that it was only just a little bit (because Charlie has really tiny teeth).. I'll go make the boyfriend go out and buy Charlie some doggie toothpaste this afternoon!
Red Fox
Yep, human toothpaste is not good! (though I wouldn't be stressing about him having it just that once). You can buy dog toothpaste instead or I have even seen fresh breath drop for dogs around the place lol. Sardine breath doesn't bother me too much, however sardine vomit on my carpet last week.... now that took some serious work to get out eta: here you go- doggie breath mints recipe http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Dog-Breath-Mints Edited March 25, 2010 by SecretKei

PuddleDuck
Human toothpaste is designed to be spat out, not swallowed. From memory, it contains high levels of flouride which can cause stomach upsets if ingested. The special dog toothpastes available are designed to be swallowed, as most dogs won't rinse and spit after having their teeth brushed ;)

Wouldn't the dog just swallow it? (in which case, how does it work?)
