GABBA
(posted elsewhere, posted here for some more exposure) Hi there, I have been doing some reading on these forums, with regards to how much i should feed my mastiff, and after tonight's (slight scare) i'd like to get other peoples opinions. I am feeding my 15 week old mastiff Eukanuba Dry Puppy Mix (Large Breed), now if i go by the back of the bag it directs me to feed the young bloke (currently approx. 15kg) 4 - 5.5 cups a day, however, i was reading that some of you feed you ADULT males 6 cups a day. Earlier tonight, i gave my mastiff two cups of dry mix with 4 or so chicken necks (too much?), after eating it, he started doing some loud sucking of air, he wasnt dry-reaching, but it sounded like loud snorting, wasnt sure what the heck it was. This is why i'd really appreciate some advice on how much, or an indication of how much i should feed him, while his weight is not excessive (according to the vet), i dont want him to have any gastro-intestinal problems . . . Aziah
The snorting sounds like reverse sneezing... I'm of no help with how much dry to feed though sorry...
Sandra777
What did the breeder tell you to feed? I would believe an ethical breeder of a breed long before I would believe the back of a dry food bag!
persephone
If your dog just swallows - chicken necks can be dangerous ;) they need to be slowly chewed..otherwise they may block his throat. maybe try a turkey neck , and let hiom have time to chew it? The ideal amount to feed is what your dog does well on, if he's ribby, feed a bit more. if he has NO waistline, and you can't feel his ribs at all- feed a bit less. The breeders should be able to point you in the right direction!
