Put a complaint about the mess and smell in writing to the head of the health or environmental department at the council.

I have found that also giving a copy to the Council members helps. You might get lucky and have a Dog lover on the Council. Also Addressing it to the CEO may help..

Just trying to give you all the insider information

This could sound extreme but go to your local Councilman/ Parliment representative. Tell them the Rangers arnt doing anything/ Tell them the RSPCA isnt doing anything... (Obviously make sure that they arnt :cheer: ) Make a huge fuss.

All else fails, when the owners leave, let the dog out, call the ranger say that you have found a dog on the streets. Ask them to collect it and the HOPEFULLY :) as long as the dog isnt to messed up in the head he will get rehomed...Just make sure the dog has no tags on it to identify the owner. I doubt a dog treated like that will be microchipped or even registered.. To make sure you could take it to a different shire and call that ranger. I doubt the owner will call around to look for the dog...

I know its all prob against the law, but sometime things have to be done to help these poor defensless animals.

You got that right. Why would you suggest something illegal to rectify a problem?

Just spoke to useless council, they asked me to keep a 2 week diary and note the type of barks and reason for it

Funny you say that, I am just about to right a letter to someone that has to fill the same Bark diary out...I know they such but Councils are required by law to do it.. I dont agree but they are the rules.

I dont know the situation, eg dogs temrement/ surrounds and all that. Maybe just keep nagging the RSCPA..

SOME ONE has to listen HOPEFULLY..

Right now we sleep in the spare room at the back with ear plugs. We can't afford to stay awake as we have to work. I suggest to council about putting on a voice recorder for the noise at night, then submit them as evidence. They said no, instead of a CD with all the voice clips and photographs and all, I have to DOCUMENT it black and white, their way. Now I don't even care about the barking anymore, we can always move to another room, that's a small matter. What I care about is that it such a torture for the dog to face four walls day in and out, I know I'd go crazy in a few days for sure.

edit random spelling.

Flycow if you are not scared of the neighbours and feel you could cope with it, have you thought about going to the press with your story ??? might just stir up the relevant authorities to some sort of action ??

Because the dog doesnt have a voice and is suffering. Some one needs to stand up for it. If she isnt having any luck doing things the "proper" way then something else needs to be done. I would rather help the dog then let it sit there and eventually die not feeling loved..

Everyones different and we all have a different opinion on whats right and wrong. To me treating a dog that way is heaps worse then getting it out of that situation

I understand the sentiment GP but it would be the height of stupidity to

1. Tresspass

2. tresspass in an unsafe environment littered with trash and hazards.

3. go into the territory of a dog whom you know is not socialised with humans.

4. let that dog out with no access to equipment such as a catchers pole, in the hope you can keep control of it, risking a serious attack (which could see the dog put down).

5. risk the dog getting away from you and possibly causing an accident or injury to others(which could also see the dog put down).

not all dogs will realise you are there to help them, not all dogs are friendly and in effect it isn't a sollution at all as all the owners have to do is front up to council and pay to get their dog back - nobody will check their yard before giving the dog back and the one who stands to get into trouble would be the person trespassing! Why would council take complaints seriously if flycow was caught out doing the wrong thing? Better to follow procedure if you want a higher chance of a good outcome long term!

Poor dog! Do your council have anything on their website about animal management? If they have spiel about dogs/animals being kept in clean conditions, not barking, etc I'd put it to them that since they've advertised that this is what they manage then they need to manage it.

I'd also make sure you mention about your concern for the welfare of the animal and if they aren't able to do something about it you'll have to go to the media/your councillor or state or federal rep to get something done. Also put it in writing in an email or something and give them a deadline - eg, if I don't hear back from you within a few days, I'm going to have to escalate. If they think you're going to escalate and they'll look bad for not acting, they'll often be a little more responsive - even though it's a shame you have to basically threaten it to get some assistance.

Keep trying the RSPCA too. I know it's tiring to try and do the right thing and they never make it easy for anyone but your concern for this poor dog and efforts so far are definately praiseworthy - at least someone is looking out for it because it's owners aren't - thank you

Hello Dolers, I need some advice.

I have a feral neighbour next door who kept his rotty mix in a 2x2 area littered with poo and dirty water. There's some tubs with water there, one have gone green, the others are black. There's no shelter either, it's just a fenced off area, so he's in the sun, rain wind and hail. He can't see out at anybody and have no interactions. Basically he's just a guard dog and he's going bonkers especially at night time. From the appearance he looks healthy and fed but sometimes the scrap food were left to rot for days. I've reported it.

Now the question lies, if he looks healthy even though living in filth, will they still take action?

What can I do now? I pity him but the owner is totally mental, same as the dog and now he is driving us mad as well as he barks Non-stop from 9pm at night, we have moved to another room for some sanity. :)

they will probably just make them have shelter and clean water and pick up the pooh

thanks for all the tips, first I'll wait for RSPCA's response before doing anything further. Today's friday, I'll give it a few days for them to respond see how it goes. To be honest, I'd rather not have any direct contact with him, feral is an understatement, I'd rather we each mind our own biz here, as it is we are new in the neighbourhood and they've already tried to blame another council complaint on us.

Sorry to disappoint you, but today's Tuesday :)

OMG! what am I doing. I hadn't had any sleep for three nights and I'm stuck on Friday. Shucks. Now I must join the losing-it thread in Off-topic.

What p's me off is that if a "breeder" kept their animals in even a FRACTION of the squalor that this dog is obviously being housed in, the RSPCA would be jumping over themselves to make an issue of it.

I hope the RSPCA can do something to help this poor dog.

I really dont understand people sometimes, and my friends and family wonder why I want to get a big property and live on it with just my dogs (and maybe my partner  )

People just disenchant me at times

Flycow, I would recommend giving the RSPCA a few days to get out there, then start calling them daily, while you keep your records of barking for the council. I recently did the same thing with regards to a sick cat living in my street the RSPCA did come out and enforce vet treatment. Persistance is the key.

So just keep on their case, they'll soon get sick of you ringing and take action. At least in my situation they did.

Could you not record it and then detail the times it barks from the recording? Just make sure you jot down when you start recording.

Yes I am doing that now, put it on, record the starting time then check the sound wave later.

Thanks everyone, will keep you updated.
