can you change a dogs name at a year old?

This was discussed in a thread not so long ago.

A dog's name doesn't mean anything to them other than a cue/command that you want their attention / want them to return to you.

Plenty of rescue dogs have no doubt been given new names, so it's definitely not an issue for the dog.

Definitely, we adopted our Shih Tzu from the pound as a senior, had no idea of his name and he learnt his new one in a few days.

If he/she was having trouble getting used to the new name you could always find something that rhymes??

When I got HoneyChild her name was Cocoa so anytime I wanted to call her I would say CocoaHoney and she soon learnt Honey was her name

I had a rescue Cavalier and at 6 I changed her name from Princess to Sassy...she sometimes listened to me but I don't think that had anything to do with changing her name
