Tiggy
I know we talked about this before but I can't remember the verdict . Sophie is desexed and is on the associate register but do I still need to take her to vetting.
J...
Yes, most will just check for an ear tattoo but some will still swab a desexed bitch.
bedazzledx2
Most times yes. I always found it easier to have my de-sexed bitch swabbed rather than have strangers in her face looking for a tat. I know we talked about this before but I can't remember the verdict . Sophie is desexed and is on the associate register but do I still need to take her to vetting. Casima
No idea about other states or disiplines, but for Agility in NSW it usually says "vetting for entire bitches only" on the entry information. I don't own an entire girl, so not really sure if they really do do it, but I've never noticed any dogs vetted at any trial I've been to in NSW or ACT (maybe I'm blind?) and never had my desexed girl (or my boys) vetted ever. Mrs Rusty Bucket
When our dog club ran an obedience competition recently, only "entire bitches" were required to be "vetted". But I guess it wouldn't hurt to check with each host club, what they expect.

Seita
in QLD all dogs need to be vetted - this includes entire bitches being swabbed as well as all dogs doing a short out and back to check that they aren't lame etc. Your number will only then be handed over to you with either vetted written/stamped on it or a signature by the person who did the vetting. ness
Wow Qld really are different to the rest of the country in more ways then one . Vetting here is only for entire bitches or those without proof of desexing. Often the trial secretaries when you have been trialling for a while don't even ask for certificates as they know which bitches are entire. shoemonster
In Vic your number has to be stamped "Pass to ring" before you can compete on the day, from memory they didnt stamp Mollys so she had to get swabbed, she is desexed. The boys are stamped Pass to ring already when you get your number

I was about to post the same thing! In QLD vetting is about checking the dog for lameness as well as checking to see if the bitch is in season. J...
Agility in Vic hasn't vetted bitches for about 2 years. Obedience still does, regardless of associate register status. Edited to add: apparently it isn't just being in-season that they are looking for - they are also swabbing for any sign of discharge which could cause an issue. Just what I've been told when I asked why they insisted on swabbing a tattoo'd associate dog. Edited March 21, 2010 by Jess.
RubyStar
Would make life easier if it was for entire bitches only. Both mine are desexed and one is on the Associate register so therefore HAS to be desexed, yet I still need them vetted. All they do is put a little scribble on our number card after we've picked up our number - who actually takes record of dogs that were and were not vetted? Because I haven't seen them mark names off nor check our numbers for the signature when we enter the ring Edited March 21, 2010 by RubyStar
Agility Dogs
I've only done 5 ANKC trials in Queensland. The dogs have only been looked at for lameness once (it was an obedience/agility trial) and Xena (speyed AR dog) hasn't been checked for a tat or swabbed ever. I think it depends on the club by the looks of it.
BC4ME
I remember recently doing the vetting for an obedience trial. A gentleman came up with his 2 bitches and I asked if they were desexed gentleman replied, "Yes they both are". I asked to see their tattoos. I couldn't find 1 of the ear tattoos so I checked his bitch and SHE WAS IN SEASON....... He said, "Is she.....oops" I had to ask him to leave the ground immediately.
