Pet Mince (chicken Frames ) And Chicken Wings

I know dogs need bones to chew on for their teeth, and also benefit from actually eating the bones - calcium etc - but can they have too much bone?

Saxon gets Advance kibble for breakfast and a chicken wing most days when I leave for work. For dinner I give him minced lamb or chicken (beef seems to make him itchy) sometimes mixed with some vegies and sometimes on its own, or tuna with some vegies and a bit of rice.

My butcher sells pet mince, which is minced chicken frames, and it is much cheaper than the human grade mince! My question is - if I fed the pet mince instead of other mince for dinner as well as the chicken wing during the day, would that be good / bad / neither for him? I'm assuming he still needs bones to chew for his teeth even if he's getting crushed bones in the pet mince.

Also, if he was only having chicken (and some fish) most of the time would he be getting enough iron, or do dogs need red meat (or some other form of iron)?

Thanks!

If it were me I would prefer to keep the diet you already have. Pet mince is minced chicken carcasses and other offal from the birds. It is full of marrow and very fatty. The chicken wing is much better for his teeth and human grade mince is healthier for him too. I use minced chicken carcasses to feed to under weight dogs that come into care to help them regain some condition or to tempt a fussy eater to learn to eat kibble but do not feed it as part of a regular diet.

The offal from the birds is actually beneficial to the dogs. On most raw diets, they say to feed organs at least once weekly. When I get chicken carcasses for my boys, I don't clean out any of the offal, just cut off the skin which is as already mentioned, fatty.

Why not buy chicken frames for your boy ? That way he gets his chewing and his bone and his meal :)

because they're gross :laugh::):mad I know, that's pathetic :(

I do want him to give him what he needs but I am a total wuss when it comes to animal bits. I was vegetarian for 9 years and still don't deal too well with meat. Even the chicken wings I struggle with a bit, especially when there are still bits of feather stuck on them...

Yep, the wings look more like the poor things looked like in life, except without feathers. The frames look like nothing in particular. Everything's been stripped out of it. My dogs adore crunching on chicken frames. I don't have any problem handling them and I'm vegetarian. I've had worse. Lovely neighbours (who are licensed roo shooters) have been known to drop by whole wallabies for my dogs - sometimes with only the hide stripped off them LOL!
