Sasha's Blend - Does It Really Improve Joint Mobiltity?

Thanks for the reply sas.

I was looking at the human version today and noticed some extra minerals etc compared with the cosequin (sp) I had been using. I was wondering if these were harmful or beneficial to dogs, the shop keeper was unsure.

I do.

I started using it quite some years ago before the pet versions were readily available in Australia. I would buy the combined powder from the health food store and sprinkle it over their food. My old boy Reagan went onto that and had a 4 week course of pentosan as well as changing to a more natural diet. Prior to being arthritic we called him Tigger due to the way he bounced, I can't say which of those things worked for him but within a few weeks we reverted to calling him Tigger and he went several years on just a natural diet and the human glucosamine powders or capsules before needing any further veterinary intervention.

Jessi the beagle whi is currently under going treatment has been having glucosamine and fish oil but was becoming very noticably lame hence the decision to see the vet and try out the injections. They have said keep her on the supplements as well though.

Best to confirm with your Vet :(

You can get trace mineral supplemention for dogs so it just depends on the dossage.

The Chondroitin in Cosequin & Joint Guard too is low molecular weight so it's absorbed better in the gut than human products.

How expensive are cartophen injections? I'm guessing you don't need them all the time in the beginning? Bambi has arthritis in her spine and I am dreading this winter (especially the three weeks I'll be in England :) ). She's on the Vets All Natural joint forumla and also gluco tablets, which is fine over summer, but I've only been through one winter with her so far, and my vet has told me it will get worse as she ages.

Hi Koemi,

I pay around $30.00 for one injection. Simba has to have one every week for 4 weeks.

Wow, I am doing well with my vet - $17.20 per injection. Jessi had her third injection tonight, so far I am not seeing massive improvement but there has definitely been some improvement. THings I have read indicate the biggest improvement is often seen after the third injection.

The vet said to us after the initial course of 1 a week for 4 weeks it is 1 as needed and that can be anywhere from once every 3 to 9 months. With 6 months being average.

I buy a whole vial at once.

At one stage I had a cat and a dog on it monthly. Even with the Stafford on it monthly the whole vial will be used up before it expires.

I buy the needles and syringes and the cartrophen and then I give it as needed.

That's very expensive... we pay around $16 - $17 each.

We use a combination of Sasha's Blend and Cartophen injections - works a treat for my old girl (2 cruciate operations, and quite bad arthritis in her back legs and one front leg). She bounces around like a puppy most days

Have tried Joint Guard, didn't find it as effective - and wasn't as palatable. Sasha's Blend smells fishy, and that is the appeal to dogs. Even my young girl Sasha (who is very fussy) will eat anything with Sasha's Blend on it

But, Chloe's specialist told me that they aren't really that effective. He said it's more to make US feel better that we are giving them something that seems to help... when in actual fact they aren't really doing all that much... especially once the damage has been done.

I used SB with my last dog. It made a difference for about 2 years. Then she went onto pain killers for her arthritis.

ETA the Cartrophen injections didn't help her. Putting her on a grain free diet and the SB did, but by the time we got to Cartrophen nothing much was helping anymore.

Jake has been on Sasha's Blend and Joint Guard for a few weeks now. The scientist in me knows how stupid that is, because I won't know which is working.. but I won't buy SB again unless JG doesn't keep him improving the way he is. Jake is a hoover but he doesn't like SB. He gets it down eventually. Poor boy. It stiiiiinks, but that would normally be an attractive feature to him!

I have noticed some improvements already. He seems more energetic, which I am hoping is due to reduced pain. His joint is still very noisy but hopefully he will continue to improve.

Joint Guard has definitely made a difference for our boy who was exhibiting mildly sore hips after exercise/play. I don't think I've seen him look sore or limp since we started giving him Joint Guard. We also took some weight off him, we keep him at the top end of underweight, if that makes sense :cheer:

We have had Mokha on Joint Guard now for a couple of months, he has also been having Catrophen injections. I can not say which has made the difference but the combination has made a huge improvement for him. He is not limping, can go for much longer walks without coming home sore. I dont dare stop either now because I am so pleased by his improvement.I get my Joint Guard from here it is the best price I have found.link

I'm currently using Sasha Blend for my Labrador mix Genevieve, she was getting very stiff and mutter a low growl when getting up and lying down. Since starting Sasha Blend-no more grumbling when gettting up and down, and alot more energy, and alot less stiff in her legs, she wants to run and play again. Got it from Megapetware house dandenong for 55.00

Will look into the vets all natural when this tube is finnish, pet stock in cranbourne has this for about 45.00

i know of a dog that a newfoundland that received the cortizone injection but still doesn't seem that mobile-she still walks very stiff. i don't think the injections are working for her personally.

Clipperworlds Joint Guard prices were cheaper for a while - but not any more - they've gone up significantly recently. For example the 750gm tub is 150.00 at Clipperworld and 119.95 at Greyhound Products Direct - so pays to shop around. Hope that helps.
