Just curious (leading on from the what dogs are at puppy school thread) about what people's plans are for their next dog and whether membership here has influenced that decision.

My next dog will be a purebred pup, most likely from a Breeder that is not listed here.

being on dol has given me the opportunity to foster and rescue breeds i may never have considered , other dolers dogs i have met have changed my views too ( now a big fan of rottie's, thanks to reddog ;) ).

my next dog will be a rescue, either cattle, or grey, again both breeds i had never considered before i fostered them through dol, although will always own a bully too ;) )

i am now a lover of older dogs too, no hurry to ever get a pup again.

Mine will only ever be ANKC registered dogs and bitches, they may or may not come from breeders that list on DOL. I can't say DOL has influenced my decisions, however it has introduced me to a couple of wonderful breeders and I have dogs and bitches bred by them.

Mine will be a puppy from a rego'd breeder. Not necessarily a DOL listed breeder.

I doubt I would get an older adult dog but am open to getting a pup up to 12 months of age as long as it has been brought up in a similar sort of house hold to mine - i.e cats and kids.

I would not seek out a rescue.

I'm on the waiting list for my next pup from a breeder who is listed on DOL. The fact that she is registered on here didn't make my decision. Through recommendations of other breeders and meeting her and her dogs at a show is why I chose her.

I think reading on DOL about the difference between good and bad breeders is what has helped me choose a good one (I hope  ) I now know all the questions to ask about how the puppies will be raised and what health tests will be done.

We would like to get Poppy a play mate in the future. IF we do this I think I will want to go through a reigstared AND reputable breeder! I will be looking for someone who offers some sort of pet insurance, health garuntees AND a rebate for desexing. I know that sounds like I want a lot from the breeder BUT I know there are breeders out there who offer all of that and I know it would make my 2nd time puppy experience A LOT less stressful than this one has been!

our next one will more than likely come the way our last 4 or so did....

someone who is fed up with their one year old terrorist, who knows us a little and how well our dogs get looked after will almost dump there beloved fido on us.

last 2 jrt had papers which i was shown when they got dog( at that point i had little interst and took no notice)..... but never had said papers or details when we were given said doggie.

leo is the only doggie i went out and searched for and got. he was a mature terrorist also... who was for sale in the trading post, bought sight unseen. i paid for him upfront and colllected him... 2 weeks later. he would have been dump had we not bought him. assuming no one else wanted a hyper dally with a kidney infection who pee'd constantly like a pup, pulled lioke a train on lead, nill training or manners!

i think they would have been hard pressed to give him away locally.

I'd not make the desexing rebate a show stopper Poppy. The main things to look out for are good puppy raising and health testing.

I'm more inclined now to get a rescue/pound dog - although my preference for a pup would lend me more to a registered breeder with a good reputation and solid testing.

I have considered getting a senior pound dog lately, but not sure if my budget could accomodate another big dog and especially one that may be more inclined to have some health issues.

Having been involved in rescue for the past 5 years - my next dog will be a rescue. I don't ever plan to buy from a breeder again. Plenty of great dogs in rescue ..... just like my current foster kelpie who I am totally besotted with!

Thats a good point! I don't think it would be a deal breaker! But I am determined to find a breeder with a health garuntee and one who offers the 6 weeks free pet insurance. It was just make the whole experience (brings a new pup home) so much more enjoyable for me!

If I get a puppy, it will be from a respectable registered breeder (doesn't matter if it's not on DOL). My main thing is it's Health for me. I have to see the parents. Probably get another male dog though.

If I get a mature dog.. I will rescue.

Our next dogs will be from registered breeders. I found my CASD's breeder on DOL and intend on getting another CASD pup in the future (couple of years away), we are also tossing up between a Peke, Boston Terrier or Bloodhound also in a few years they will also come from a Registered Breeder.

I would really like a Caucasian Ovcharka in the future also but as there is none in Australia it would take years of research and truck loads of money to import one in. I have learnt so much from the Central Asian and I believe there will be one in our family forever. I do like the Caucasian, however they would require a very dedicated owner to the breed and would not suit a majority of homes so this would be a 10-15 year plan.

.........if ever
