TrinaJ
Well its nearly been 1 week and it looks like the ultrasound was accurate. Jett has not gained any weight at all and doesn't look the slightest bit pregnant Dunno what is going on with her weird silent half seasons.... Am going to keep a close eye on her and if it happens again (will be 3rd time) I will get vets to investigate further.
Lab lady
just out of curiosity, what has it cost you to have an ultra sound done? I had a bitch done about 2 years ago and it only cost me $45.
TrinaJ
Consult was $30 and U/S was $
ellz
Mine was $70 for the u/s. And then it was $75 for the xray. They initially said it would only cover one film but they had such a hard time getting clear shots they ended up taking about 13 with two vets doing them and they still only charged me the basic fee. SBT101
$90 here for an u/s. Booked in for Monday which is the same day the entries are due. I have been going over her pregnant belly shots from her first litter and I still dont know Could be, might not be. I have heard of bitches who have a phantom actually go through the whole hog, including weight gain, labour and all. Hopefully the vet on Monday will be able to tell me for sure. SHe will be 7 weeks, so she might just have to do a palpation hopefully.
ellz
I hope she's hiding at least one in there for you, but I have to be honest and say that by 7 weeks u/s or no u/s, you should be starting to see some pretty definite signs, especially in a bitch which has had a previous litter. Even Vanni (Am Cocker), in coat and a maiden had shown me that she was in whelp by then and she only had the 2. It was really only the movements from around week 7 onwards that were a giveaway. They weren't strong, but they were there. It was easier to feel them if she was laying quietly on her side and I slipped a hand underneath her belly and put my other on top and lay next to her. It was easier then to differentiate the "puppy thumps" from other goings on inside. for you!
SBT101
Ye, going over her previous preggy belly shots, you could see at 7 weeks that she was definatley pregnant. It just st the moment that I cant tell All the signs are still there but.......dont want to count my chickens before they hatch......

Cavalblaze
SBT101, is she panting more than usual? This all very interesting. I called the vets where my girl in located and in the whole township none of the vets have ultrasound equippment. We are hopeful our Cavalier girl is pregnant. One tie only 25 minutes and stud owner has had a look and had a hard time trying to feel for anything and the bitch wasn't happy about being examined. Maiden bitch so she isn't giving any real definate signs away. We have found she has put on weight, been a bit off colour somedays. She did have a discharge just after her season finished. Nipples are slighlty pinker, not really noticable. We can do a Xray for $140 after 8 weeks, but i'm letting nature take it's course. We either are going to have little babies or not, test aren't going to change that. It would be nice to know numbers and get a definate confirmation, but we'll work on idea she is pregnant and if she is having a phantom we will try again in 6 months. SBT101
Cavalblaze, thats exactly what is happening with Kimba at the moment but this will be her second litter(maybe). Today she doesn't look pregnant at all but other days she does. If she isn't, then thats alright. I am over the excitement/heartbreak now and will just mate her again on her next season. SBT101
Oh, I heard something the other day about bitches not falling pregnant when the moon is wrong ? Apparently, cant remember how many years ago, alot of breeders who had mated their bitches at a certain time (something to do with the moon) didn't fall pregnant and it was the same with horses. Anyone heard of this. Sounds alot like the crayfishing. When there is no moon, you dont catch anything.
oakeydoak1
SBT - I recon there is something in that. Do you know if it doesnt rain on the new moon then there will be no more decent rain until the next new moon. If it does then you usually get follow up rain the week after as well. I had trouble with BC last season and a friend of mine who had 4 broodmares in season as well didnt get pregnant even though they were served multiple times. tashnchief
Stranger things have happened! But, funny enough I was only having a discussion with a friend in NZ about the high incedence of bitches and mares either not falling or reabsorbing/miscarrying of late. There has got to be something in it, besides just coincedence.
