Undercover Dog Arenas In Sydney

Oh dear, a fine example of the poor spirited people that exist in the dog world -

"how dare you make a negative comment or suggestion - you shall be punished!! " .

How is it that we have "governing bodies" and people appointed to clubs are allowed to act this way? They obviously do it because they think they can get away with it, and for those not willing to stand up to them, they do. Let's hope your Governing body will see this person's actions corrected.

UPDATE #2

 OK well now it seems that my entries have not been cancelled or refunded - just as well LOL

I have had loads of very lovely people send me messages of support. :D

I still can't believe that others are so happy to leave their dogs outside or be left outside looking after their dogs and missing the spectacular that should be the main focus of a National Speciality Show.

Oh well I'll stick to my dogs company as it is way more inviting than "some" that attend dog shows anyway LOL!

I have been labelled a trouble maker now and am contemplating printing a t-shirt to wear at the show that simply says "Here's Trouble!" LMAO

Thanks again to all who commented.

Whilst I think it would have been very petty had your entries been cancelled, I think you need to be a bit more realistic. If you wanted a say in the venue for the show you should have probably been involved in the organising committee about two years ago, rather than asking on DOL a few weeks before the show and saying "What really annoys me is within 12 hours of posting my question here - I was able to find an ideal venue just around the corner from the venue they have, imagine if I had a couple of years to organise it LOL". How do you know this is an ideal venue? Do you know if the venue was available on the particular weekend? Do they still allow dog shows? Have you done a fully costed budget? What are the insurance and cleaning requirements?

I think you need to give the committee a break. Maybe they could have come up with a better venue, for that matter, maybe they could have better caterers, or a better schedule, or better prizes. I'm sure they have all worked very hard though. You say, "It is a sad day when a Club cannot appreciate another persons opinion and is so touchy to criticism.", but there would be no options to change venues at this stage, so really your criticism is not very constructive.

Sure, it is not great to have the dogs outside, but whinging about it now is not going to change anything. If it was my breed I would get together with a group of friends and organise a roster for a couple of people to be outside with the dogs at any one time, and the rest in the venue. I'd make it festive in the outside area with drinks and nibbles to make it as fun as possible for those missing out on the 'action'.

I hesitate to suggest this in case I get jumped on  but here goes, The Rotunda is undercover at Erskine Park. Now I don't know if it would be big enough for Dobermans but I think that if you just used it as a ring, with everybody setting up outside, it should be big enough. Just a thought, maybe next time....

I would think that this would cover all provisos in the rules as well. You could use the outdoor rings and if necessary, move indoors to the Rotunda.

There will not be and cannot be any changes made to the schedule or venue under our National Rules.

The club did have another venue booked which they know was far better than this one but it was sold and all contracts cancelled. I believe they found and confirmed this venue with under 10 months to go. And if going from the other open forum this topic has dominated for the past week - there was actually never any threat of anyones entries been cancelled.

Also I just wanted to point out that this club have always been more than welcoming to me and my partner and have always gone out of their way to make all their shows enjoyable. This club is actually the easiest Dobe club in Aus to deal with on any level - I would be more than happy and proud to be a member of this club. I think they are getting an unfair reputation here.

the horrid cancellations are such a pain after so much effort.

It certainly getting near impossible to find the perfect dog venue & despite WA & Vic having indoors very few indoor venues allow the dogs to be set close to the ring anyway.

Having atteneded many nationals the dogs are generally on there own as front row is set aside fr thw atchers & often areas are fenced off so the people have ther space & the dogs theres.

Most venues are just feasably unrealistic to be used or the ones that are perfect cost wise is just not going to happen.

either way a mammoth task that often ends up with last minute issues that really can be a problem

If there was never a threat to my entries being cancelled why was I told a refund cheque would be issued and I would receive it Mon or Tues at the latest! Do you really think they would let me exhibit for free?

I am glad you would "be more than happy" to be a member of this club given you are in Victoria. I have had private contact from quite a few members - some of whom have been members for over 30years! - and they wonder why they bother to pay the yearly membership and are saddened by the state of this club now days! So, if this is one of the easiest clubs to deal with I am surprised that the Dobermann breed still continues in Australia. From my experiences with some of the members of this club, we have not experienced such a welcome. I am not saying "all" members are the same, just "some". Although since the banter in the "other forum" I have had some really lovely private contacts from those in the Victoria Dobermann Club asking me to join there Club.

My feelings are - just because something has been acceptable for the past 2 shows or however many, does not mean that it cannot be improved for the future shows. If they really needed help with organising this National then they could've approached non-members to see if they would like to join or to find out if non-members would be willing to help out in anyway - which i would have had no hesitation in doing, and will do in the future!

Perhaps tyra20007 you should have been a part of the national committee - it would have been a great learning curve.

Oh I am sure I would learn so much from organising a dog show.

I couldn't possibly have any experience at such things even though I have been (in the past) head co-ordinator for five years for a march that occurs through the streets of Sydney City.

Work involved included - liasing with council to close George St and other main streets in the city, liasing with police and supplying route information and requirements as well as understanding our legal requirements. Organinsing with council for multiple parks to be available (including Hyde Park) and set up with various concert stages and PA equipment, generators, stalls and catering, all which required installation and set up with only 3 hours access prior. Arranging for international artists to be flown into Sydney with pick up and accomodation as well as tours of Sydney. Then trying to organise and marshall a crowd of up to 20,000, we made these events a success all with the help of a very small team of inexperienced people who weren't all that organised at times LOL. Prior to the event we organised fundraiser dinners for 500+ people and organised the donation of charity auction items to enhance a very small budget. I consider myself lucky to have done all that I did and never did I want congratulations for doing it or demand thanks, I never whinged about the 100's of hours of mantime it took to do it, nor did I hesitate signing up for it year after year. I forgot to mention as well as the above we had to design a yearly theme print posters and t-shirts along with other merchandise for sale on the night, try to obtain free advertising and exposure, arranging press releases and media interviews, invitations to guest speakers and co-ordinating the speakers (ie, timing scheduling for the duration), there was so many things involved and we did this annually.

So I guess a dog show would be so much harder than that  NOT!

Why is it that some people assume that everyone else is a moron who has no idea how hard things are to organise? Sheesh

Well yes, I think all breed clubs have these members - people who aren't happy with the state of affairs and are happy to say so. Funny, they never seem to be there when volunteers are required to actually do something :D

OK, so you are not even a member of the Club, but some how the Club should have known to come looking for you to organise the show, and you would have done a better job than they have? But again, you still have NO IDEA what other venues were available and an understanding of budgets etc. Honestly, I think you need to join the Club (I really don't understand why people wouldn't join their state breed club if they were active in the breed), and then volunteer your services. Now, had you actually fully researched venues a couple of years ago and found something more suitable (considering costs, availability, insurance etc) and THEN they turned you down, I could understand your gripe.

Why do they hold the National indoors, if the weather was fine why wouldn't you want to show dogs to their full potetial outdoors.JMO

I guess because the conditions state the there must be "provision for" an undercover area, they have to cater to indoors because with all the organisation and decorating of the ring the last thing they want to do is change from outdoors to indoors due to the weather and have to rush in from the rain and have the indoor arena not as ready as outdoors.

I am just guessing, but I guess they have to cater to "Murphy's Law" and don't trust that Mother Nature will be kind on the day (she is an unpredicatable B**ch at the best of times LOL)
