MavericksMission
Hi Guys, Just a quick question. My new little pup isn't really a big eater, he will eat a tiny bit and then he walks off. He is 9 weeks old. What are peoples views on taking away the food after a certain amount of time? Could it be that he actually doesn't like the food? If I could have some suggestions, ideas on how I could get him to eat some more, that would be great! I have done the whole add warm water and microwave to enhance the smells, but it doesn't really do much for him.. At the moment he is on Optimum wet and dry food (I know not the best... ) Thanks Fellow DOLers! Here is my little man Hector!
persephone
Are you feeding him the same as he was being fed before you got him? How many times a day do you offer food? Does he get bones, treats/scraps What exercise does he get, etc? Does he seem more keen to eat things like treats/bones? does he chew sticks a lot? have you checked his mouth for sores/cuts ? Does he eat the sticks ? he is a VERY cute boy Edited March 7, 2010 by persephone
MavericksMission
Wow Yes he is being fed what he was feeding on before I got him. He gets Breakfast & Dinner. (lunch if I am home from work) I have only had him home a couple of days, he gets his treats that I used for training, no bones yet. He only gets backyard exercise as he hasn't had his final puppy vacc yet. He does seem more keen to eat his training treats rather than his meal, I only give him a small amount of treats, in hope that he will eat his meal. He doesn't chew the sticks very often, he only wanted it because Maverick had it. I have checked his mouth for sores, cuts and ulcers. Hope these answers can help you with some advice to help me! Thank You!
persephone
Ah- well, if you have only had him home a couple of days, he may well just be settling in.... Just offer the food somewhere quiet and away from the other dog... leave pup with it for 10 minutes or so, then remove it ,til next mealtime. Hopefully very soon ,he will realise that is the way to go Sorry- that's all I can think of.

I think your right, It is probably a settling in thing, I will keep and eye on it! Cheers
