juice
i just discovered mason has very mucky ears! i sat down on the grass next to him with some cotton buds, and gently tried to get as much gunk out as i could, but after a while he had had enough. there is a lot ( dark brown stuff) much further down, and i don't want to irratate the ear, is there anything i could put in to loosen it up? or should i take him to the vet for a good clean? thought i might do a little bit each day, but not sure i can get further down? any tips? WreckitWhippet
Use 3mls Malaseb to 100 water. Make it up in a sauce bottle and squirt into the ears. Massage and then let the dog shake it's head and use a dry towel or paper towel to wipe out the inside of the ear.

frufru
As STB123 suggested - and I would use a cotton ball rather than a cotton bud to clean out the gunk that is dislodged. Keep an eye on it as you may need to see the vet if there is an infection. Edited March 2, 2010 by frufru
LuckyLuck
I've had this on my shih tzu. The vet said it was yeast infection. What I did was pull out all the hair in the ears and applied tri-optic ointment into the ears. Massage it around and use cotton pads cut in half and rolled up and carefully clean the ear canal but make sure not to go too deep. Do this for about a week until all the brown stuff is out. Hope this helps.
