Raven
I have a beautiful 2 yr old Lab and have no intentions of mating her. I have only had her since last year and have been meaning to get her de-sexed but other things have come up and now she's in season. I don't have to worry about dogs as we live on a property and I lock her up when I go out. My question is how long do I have to wait before she is off heat so I can get her de-sexed safely. She has been spotting since last week. Thanks Sharon
Kanati Whippets
My vet told me to count 12 weeks from when she started her season for my girls. Hope that helps. eta: so sorry, that was supposed to be 12 not 3! Edited March 2, 2010 by Kanati Whippets

Sandra777
Most vets recommend waiting until half way between heats, not immediately after the heat unless it's really essential. So wait 3 months or perhaps a bit less to be sure.
Raven
Thanks Sandra, I just want everything to be safe for our girl and if I have to wait another 3 months then I will. There's no chance of an opps pregnancy as she's with me at all times and locked up when we go out. I just read your edit KW Thanks Sharon
