mrs tornsocks
Is there a officially-determined age that a puppy is technically no longer a puppy ? No real reason except out of interest. I am sure there's an age in showing where a pup is no longer eligible, not sure if there's any other standards on this issue. (and thinking about when I might stop calling out 'pup pup' to my 30kg lab in the park - and yes, I know the lab will probably be still a pup at 3)
Chicken
I was always told that at 2 years they are generally finished growing. I guess physically they are no longer puppies at about this age then. Mentally, that is a whole different story!!!
tlc
I have no idea but I still call my 2 year old a pup, he is very puppyish and I just cant help myself
Gamby
I've found that dogs normally tell a puppy when it has lost its puppy licence by giving a little growl to say "Hey enough"
KritalJay
I think that I'll always call our Lola a puppy.
Bubitty
Bit Bit is 9 months and still very much a puppy in my eyes! She is also still shamelessly exercising that puppy licence on Bubby!
Asalei
My girls will always be my puppies, even if they are 15 years old.

From a "show ring" perspective puppies are age classed as follows: - baby puppy 3-6 months - minor puppy 6-9 months - puppy class 6-12 months Additionally, most Local Governments require dogs to be registered once they reach 12 weeks of age. Up until that time they are regarded as a puppy.
W Sibs
Well, Charlie is always going to be known as 'pup' or 'puppy' in my house. But, generally, after 1 years old?

Definitely!! My two are 3 now... and Ruby acts like a 6 month old when out in public, though she acts like an old woman at home! And they are forever my puppies, no matter their age
Pete.the.dog
Well for larger dogs it's takes about 2 years to finish growing/settle down a bit doesn't it? A bit less than for smaller dogs *I think*
Casima
My youngest is going to be "puppy" until I have a new youngest in a few years time I have found all my dogs have "grown up" mentally at around the 2 year mark.
becky thatcher
Thanks for the info. I have often wondered about this.
pie
I consider a dog to no longer be a puppy at 12 months, not sure why. But I still call Kyzer my "Puppy Boy" even though he is 3 and the oldest of my two  It really annoys OH
RallyValley
My friends 9yo Lab acts more puppy like (mentally) then my 15 week old Chesapeake. However I say my 1.5 year old plays up at agility because 'he is still a puppy' .
~*Shell*~
Lol - Zero will be 6 in July and even though I never had him has a puppy, he still gets called "pup" and "puppy" all the time!
♪♫LMBC♫♪
Darcy is 2 in just over a month and he still acts like a puppy But every now and then I see a glimpse of an adult dog... He is starting to test boundaries, especially now that he has so many other dogs around. In particular, he likes to pick fights with Phantom (who I think is 3 and still acts like a puppy )
