Took My Sammy Back To The Vet Today Re Shoulder Problems

Hello All,

I would just like to share with you the fact that lately my 3yo male samoyed has been limping on his front

right leg. I took him to the vet last monday and the vet gave him an injection and some anti inflammatory tablets.

I took him back a week later (today) and the vet watched him walk around and said he looked better but it could just

be the tablets. He gave him another cartrophen injection and more anti inflamms. He said if he isan't better in a week

he will need a arthroscopy (poor thing).

Thanks for listening, and if any of you are going through or have gone through similar problems with your dogs, any info,

advice etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Before you do anything take your dog to a good canine chiropractor, I would recommend Barry Haywood in Cranbourne South, he is also a qualified vet but specialises in canine sports medicine.

Agree with Miranda - get to see a good canine chiropractor first - it wouldn't be the first time I had heard that such a visit was all it took to avoid invasive surgery. I know that Barry Haywood has a good following and recommended by many, but personally I found him to be too rough with my girl (Kal - bless her cotton socks). I found Kevin Kelly (works from the Devon Meadows Dog Swimming Pool on Wednesday afternoons) to be far more gentle and effective for her and he has a good reputation and is sought after by many (from near and far) as well. He is not a Vet though.

I know that there are other chiro's in the area that DOLers have seen and been pleased with. I think George Schofield (??) is another. Other DOLers will be in soon, I'm sure, to give more info on their recommendations/experiences.

I third the chiropractor option. My dog who has only one front leg occasionally puts her shoulder 'out' and can't walk. Quick trip to the chiropractor and she is set straight.

My Siberian girl had the same symptom I took her to my vet and she xrayed her and found spurs in her shoulder. She has been put on Sashes Blend and I have taken to a chiropractor and he crunched her which has helped her alot. Other treatments we have been told about is swimming, having gold beads injected or if none of these work surgery which doesn't guarantee the spurs wont grow back

I will definately take Simba to a chiropractor.

I'm sure it will be cheaper than an arthroscopy!

And more effective.

I have also wanted to take him swimming at either Woofpurnay or

the one in doveton. But I'll look into the one that one of you guy's

suggested.
