Joan of Arc
an add in our local paper today offering a black and gold lab, with papers - free to a good home but recommending a farmlet or acreage. Ghee, wonder if that's to accommodate the kelpie in this purebred lab! Sorry but I just go so mad at this add.
Pink Panther
Purebred or not, with papers or not, isn't the main thing that the dog gets a good home? The description may not be spot on to say the least, but isn't it more important that the dog doesn't end up in the pound?
Serket
Well, at least they're trying to make sure it goes to a suitable home and not just anywhere
ozjen
http://www.ashgi.org/color/Aussie_somatic_mutations.html This site shows a black and yellow Lab as the second image showing unusual mutations. Perhaps the advertised dog had this mutation
SmoothieGirl
It wasn't a typo meaning 2 labs was it? One black and one gold/yellow?
tarakay
Maybe it was typed up wrong at the paper.

Joan of Arc
Yes have seen that site before and it is very interesting and while I agree that at least they are trying to find the dog a more suitable home it undermines the responsible breeders. No Newfsie, not a typo this time - I know our local rag is just that, a rag, but this time that's what the advertiser wrote.

sandgrubber
In recent years, there have been several litters in WA where some (roughly half) of the pups were something like brindled (mosaic). I wouldn't call them black and gold, but someone might. In some cases both sire and dam were titled. Pamela Davol discusses this, and black and tan labs, at length: http://www.labbies.com/genetics2.htm Such pups are generally registered on Limited Register. I don't see how this undermines responsible breeders. Edited March 1, 2010 by sandgrubber

mr.mister
A little off topic, but I saw an ad in our paper for a litter of mini foxies - $250 'unspaded' and $350 'spaded' "Yes, I'd like my new puppy spaded, please...."
