cowanbree
Outside is not really suitable for newborn puppies. They tend to chill and die very easily. Perhaps pop her in the bathroom or laundry. She will keep the puppy clean for the first 3 weeks so you only need to worry about changing the bedding a couple of times a day. persephone
what are the night time temperatures in your area? It should be fine in a covered pergola - providing there are no draughts, and the bedding is NOT in contact with the cold concrete .. insulate it with about 2 cm of newspaper ,if you have nothing else- the suggestion of a children's paddling pool is a good one... as the puppy can then not crawl away- but is protected from draughts. With one pup- there will be no mess ... Mum will take care of all that :D Edited February 27, 2010 by persephone
Shelby
Make sure that you check thoroughly for drafts - so easy for babies to get chilled. Get down at floor level with a lighter or match and see if any draft blows the flame. By putting up a puppy pen with sheet over it to floor, it stops any draft getting thru to baby. Good luck - what a surprise :D
mrs tornsocks
what an amazing - and cute- little surprise. You have alot of expert advice here (I love DOL), I have no experience in whelping or babies ... but just want to wish you best of luck with the little pup and Mollie. Just out of interest, did you let the previous owners know, not sure if you know them or not. Any clue about Dad ? And does the baby have a name yet ? OSoSwift
That would have been somthing that raised your blood pressure! I had something very similar happen. My bitch went back to her breeder (in another state) to be mated. She was mated, but very late in her cycle and when she was xrayed they said nope no babies. She was flown back, shown (with big boobs, but had always had full on phantoms). The day before he baby was born she was out of sorts and puffing on her walk more than usual, I was thinking maybe I should get her an U/s but decided that maybe she was having a 'worse' phantom due to being mated. I got up to get her up for her walk and heard some squeaking noises coming from her crate. There was one little puppy - my absolutely shocked response was what the hell is that! Poor Mummy! Baby was cleaned, dried and well fed. I walked into the bedroom and woke up hubby - he immediately asked me what was wrong as i had my "nearly trod on a tiger snake" face on! He said Cool! I was like cool, cool what is bloody cool about that! Anyway it all worked out okay and as I was working full time we had four people wrorking in shifts to make sure everything that need to be done was. I had heaps of soft toys in with my baby and socialised her with known "safe" dogs (ie vaccinated and good with babies) to try and help fill in the gaps she had from not having litter siblings. It was a full time job! You will get heaps of great advice, good luck with your baby and hope mum enjoys her new suprise role in life. It is great she has found a wonderful home just in time so her and her baby can be looked after in the correct way. Oh and start a thread a bout a puppy and the rules are you must put lots of pictures up! :D
WoofnHoof
Gorgeous husky and looks like a healthy pup too! Good sound advice from experienced breeders here for you so that's a great start :D I know what you mean about huskies and cats mine is the same, your best bet is to section off rooms of the house make one area 'dog area' and the other area 'cat area' maybe with a buffer area in between to minimise accidental escapes? Depends on the layout of your house and doors etc though. Good luck sounds like mum and bub have landed on their feet
Kirislin
If you cannot bring her inside, do you have an old table, a card table is what I used and put it over her bedding. I had a whelping box, but you dont need one, you just need a warm place to contain the puppy, such as the kids wading pool. Place the table over the top and you can put a blanket over that to create a warm cave like environment. Here's a pic of the set up I had, when it was too warm I would lift the blanket as is shown here, and if it was cold I would lower it.

sallywill
Hi, Thanks for asking. Things are going well. Mollie is doing a fab job of being a mum. Though i was telling Alicia last night I feel so sorry for her when we go past and she gets so excited and wants to play, then realises she can't. Here are some more pics of Mischa, now 6 days old. Any ideas on what type of dog daddy is???
aquaticmalamute
Bub is just gorgoues! The father would have to be something with alot of coat - i'm going to guess a Border Collie or the likes. See how the pup's coat has a 'wave' to it? In Malamutes this type of coat in a wriggler pup is a fairly big indication that it is going to be a wooly/longcoat, and not short double coat like the standard asks for
OSoSwift
I was thinking Border Collie type daddy as well. All I know is that baby sure is cute! Tell her not to worry by the time bub is 6 to 8 weeks out, she will be bolting out the door to go for a great walk. What a great job you are all doing. Yes, well, she should've thought of this before she had her fun, so typical of young single mothers tsk tsk
