giraffez
Hi, Does anyone know where the medication DERMOTIC for yeast infections in ears can be used a couple months after it is first opened? I still have plenty left over from the last time my pup had ear problems. Ears are starting to smell again and was thinking of applying some. See post #10 http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...t&p=4375256 Edited March 6, 2010 by giraffez
Guest Ams
Is there a use by date on the container? If it is within that period and was stored as specified Store this medication at room temperature, protect it from light and moisture it should be safe to still use it. I cannot find anything on an MSDS to indicate it should be discarded after a certain amount of time has expired after opening.
becks
Have you plucked his ears? keeping this up will minimize any future ear problems.

His ears aren't red but have been shaking his head alot after I applied Dermotic. Hope this is ok. Have you plucked his ears? keeping this up will minimize any future ear problems. Only with my fingers. I did give it a clip as far as I can. Edited February 26, 2010 by giraffez
becks
You cut the ear hair? is that what you meant by 'clip as far as you can see'? Doing this can cause a fur ball to form inside the ear canal.

Doing this can cause a fur ball to form inside the ear canal. I use the clipper to lightly cut the hair off the inner ears. The hair in the canal, i use scissors to cut any protuding hair (never point it inside the canal). and when he is lying on me, i use my fingers to pluck any hair out. Is this not the correct way? becks
You don't need to trim at all the hair growing out of the ear canal! Leave it and put on some ear powder and pull it out, the extra length will make it easier to pull.

giraffez
He keeps shaking his head still these couple of day. I haven't applied anything to his ears. It doesn't smell or seem red and infected either. You think there is something irritating inside his ears? Should i apply some dermotic?
persephone
giraffez- it is possible, that when clipping his ear hair short bits of hair fall into his ear canal- and yes, it would be very annoying/irritating Dogs have ear hair to STOP foreign bodies getting way down in the ear canal (..in some cases tho it can grow too thickly.. yes, I know people pluck it out .. :D )

Does it eventually go away or do i need to take him to the vet. I've tried ear cleaners but he just shakes his head now and then
