Howling Dogs - How To Stop Them?

Hi I have a few dogs on a large property but recently they have taken to howling a few times a night. I don't hear them but they disturb my husband and probably distant neighbours. Any ideas of what I can do to reduce the incidence of them howling? They do it for about 30 seconds and up to 2 minutes at a time. They are yarded at night and all of them have company.

Will a radio help? What are they howling at? I used to think it was when one of the bitches was in season but now it seems every night.

My guys howl at the usual sirens and occasionally for other reasons I have yet to determine I just tell them to knock it off and they stop but that could be difficult if they are not close to you.

They are close if I hear them and by the time I get to the back door they have stopped. Go back to bed and just get to sleep and they do it again.

Sirens always kick them off. Also other dogs howling. Maybe there is a howling dog somewhere & you don't hear it inside but they hear it outside. Entire males may howl if they know there is a bitch on heat & they can't get to it.

I went outside once to tell mine to shut up howling & all 5 of them were sat in a circle like wolves with their heads up.

Creepy, must be a primitive instinct thing.

Don't know how to stop it, not normally a regular thing.
