Longcoat
'Tess32' date='25th Feb 2010 - 06:11 PM' post='4356248'Be careful not to judge lack of training and poor upbringing misconstrude as breed specific behaviours. I have spent 30 years with Labs, Flatcoats and Goldens and have never suffered destruction issues with young adults I've known some well trained, well socialised goldies and they are STILL destructive compared to Collies  How can a dog be well trained when it demonstrates unwanted behaviour???. Longcoat
What I like:Generally long hair Laid back inside Able to live happy on 40-60 min walk a day Low incidence of dog aggression Soft temperament Medium sized up to giant, no little dogs Sounds like you're after a Belgian Shepherd to a T  Can't say I know too many Malinios like that
Beth.
YAY for getting an Aussie!!! I must admit, after getting Lottie (she's my first dog), i'll never not have an Aussie in my life!!! And they definately do fit your criteria... Although Lottie is only just 6 months old(she's a blue merle Aussie) she's quiet in the house, I can leave her during the days alone, or with other dogs, she really doesn't mind, LOVES swimming, loves having play dates and going on little walks, and is just an all round good dog  . Can't wait to hear more about your new little arrival (when it arrives, hehe). And she is also not a bouncy pup, very clever, very laid back about everything, and boy is she a confident little dog, NOTHING phases her!! Ok, enough bragging now..... Good luck with your hunt of finding a breeder/puppy who suits you!!!
Guest Tess32
Thanks everyone, I've decided on an Aussie Cool, now you have to decide on a colour and a breeder! I can highly recommend black tri's, they are extremely pretty, but then the merles are nice too, and the red tri's are divine. Dusty's breeder has some black tri's right now, they are almost the same mating as Dusters.....same sire (Gr Ch) and the dam is a generation from Dusty's dam. Impresslive looking litter and I can highly recommend the lines, they are LOVELY dogs, sweet temperaments, highly intelligent and very cruisy to live with. Still a while away, so I will take my time, hehe. Colour is hard, is easier with a Collie as I only like Sables and Merles Red Tri would definitely be my first pick, then black tri, then red merle. Definitely not a blue merle as I don't want two dogs of the same colour. It's hard deciding when ready too....there's a lot to consider and it's not like as soon as you're ready you can go get one! I would estimate at least minimum 6 months before I'd begin really looking.

Black Tri's are elegant looking, really shiny and glossy. beautiful eye catching dogs.. I have two black tri colours, a red merle and a blue merle who stays here a fair bit. I've just found my best mate an adult blue boy too. Would you like to see some photos of aussies? :D
Parkeyre
Oops double post. GoldenWei
When I was looking I was leaning towards the red tri or red merle. Having said that, I wouldn't of minded too much what colour I got.

Parkeyre
For more colours and types.. Video of Cooper's breeder's dogs. Every accepted colour is shown here. the red tri colour has a half tail, the young blue merle without copper has a tull tail and the others have natural bob tails. And this is Millie: She's very lazy when she's inside, totally different in the yard. Edited February 26, 2010 by Bonnie Parker

Gayle.
Colour is hard, is easier with a Collie as I only like Sables and Merles Now, see I love the tri-colour collies, and the merles. Sable would be my last pick although a darker sable with sparkling white trim is a sight to behold. We are contemplating another pup when we move (if we ever sell this place) so we could be looking at around the same time. Gaylek ahs two beautiful black tri colours with these. Dusty has a bunny tail, Benson has a longer, but still natural bobtail. Next dog will have no tail, cos trying to brush Benson's britches drives me crazy. He has the fuzziest pants ever, they are like velcro cos they attract everything, and he hates me touching his tail so trying to get under it to use the brush can be a real problem. Whereas Dusty is easy, cos there's nothing to move out of the way.

I'm going NBT from now on, Jack's is so easy care. :D

You would think I were torturing him when I get brushing down there. I've discovered that I probably was. He's much more tolerant if I am very patient and gentle and do it properly in little sections. A good brush also helped. :D Nonetheless, he only has to sit down and he gets twigs, leaves, dirt and random debris stuck in his fur.
Guest Tess32
I don't really care about tail or no tail :D I like most of the colours so I don't think I'd care *too* much, just definitely not a blue merle. Post as many aussie piccies as you like!
SmoothieGirl
God, now I'm confused again. A tri Aussie would be lovely. Plenty of time to decide though, perhaps I need to include some Aussie breeders in my research visits. I've got four Collie breeders on the list, why not add some Aussie ones too. If anyone in Vic wants to recommend some breeders that focus on breeding for dog sports, feel free to PM me. Won't be looking for a puppy until late this year, early next year so pups on ground not required. Now look what you've done Tess!

Gayle.
Smoothie, talk to Leopuppy. I think her next litter might be bred for exactly that. Not sure when she's planning one though.
