Janba
I have a mating for my dog next week (found out tonight the bitch is in season) and would need to do a stud agreement. I wonder if anyone had one I could modify to the conditions we have agreed on (basically that service fee isn't due to be paid till a live litter is born and stud fee). This is his first mating so I am not expecting payment till a live litter is born so in these circumstances would people with hold the service certificate till the pups came or give it at the time of the matings (we have agreed on 2)? Also I am tempted to have his semen checked this week to make sure it is viable as the bitch owner is over 2 hours drive away. Would having this done on Fri make a difference to a mating on Tues? I tend to think not but would like other people opinions. Thanks in advance ETA This is a good mating for my boy in so I want to do thing right. Wynnlake
Hi Janba, a young dog can reproduce good numbers of semen very quickly, so 4 days before the planned mating should be fine, in fact it's a good chance to 'clean him out' so to speak. The bitch may not even be ready tuesday, but at least you will know what his sperm are like and you will know that the sperm that are there are all fresh ones! Good luck with the matings. I'm interested in a stud agreement also, so if I can get a copy of it too that would be great. Of course it will just be a basis and will no doubt be changed somewhat. Cleaning him out was what I thought and maybe a chance to store some semen depending on the quality. The bitch will be day 9 or 10 next tues so may be right. Will have to wait for tests and the opionion of her old male to find out. At least work the next couple of weeks can be flexable.
