Pointees Posted February 24, 2010 Share Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) Ok, a number of times a day, once if I am lucky though, my bigger dogs go completely nuts in the backyard... I mean, barking and growling, and they won't shut up for AGES.. I went into my backyard about 10 minutes ago, and noticed the colour blue behind our trees in the backyard, and then I realized it was the neighbours' daughter. Now, she wasn't in the backyard, she was on their side of the fence, BUT, there is a whole in our fence where I have blocked it off with old fencing (the metal front fence kind).. She was standing there, I don't know if she was annoying my dogs, but they apparently don't like her being there... I was out there for about 10 minutes saying "guys, she won't hurt you" loud enough for her to hear me so she knew I knew she was there, and that I NOW know it's been her all along.. My problem is, I won't have the money to get the fence fixed for about 2-3 weeks... Thats for half the fence, and other half should hopefully come from the neighbours.. These neighbours are renters, and are kind of feral... Unemployed single mother of 2 teenager daughters, a daughter whom looks about 7 or 8 years old (the one I saw behind the fence) and a 5 or 6 year old son.. Both teenage daughters are always out the front of their house either smoking or sitting with teenage boys... The two younger children play games outside until about midnight screaming and chasing each other around. I have called the police on the teenage daughters, as they were drunk and singing 'happy birthday' and 'twinkle twinkle little star' at 11.30pm with the teenage boys.. I walked past their house last week, as I was walking my dogs, and saw the little girl at the front door crying and screaming "mummy, let me inside" she would have just come home from school, she was in her uniform and had her school bag on her back soon... The mother then screamed out a lovely reply, which I will not be posting.. How do I stop this girl from looking into my backyard daily? I can't take my dogs barking and barking and barking until she goes away... ETA: I have nothing solid which can block the whole in the fence... Sounds like she has a pretty ordinary home life, perhaps she is attention seeking (by annoying people) or perhaps she is just gazing longingly at the dogs and wishing she could meet them? No need to get heavy and harsh, perhaps just call out to her, 'would you like to meet the dogs?' would be enough to get her to stay where she is long enough for you to gently explain that the dogs barking is annoying to everyone and cruel to the dogs (she doesn't need to know that's not strictly true ) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
sandgrubber Posted February 24, 2010 Share Posted February 24, 2010 you may be able to pick up some second hand corrigated iron dirt cheap or free from a demolition company having called the cops on the neighbour's kids doesn't set things up well for a friendly discussion . . . unfortunately a lot of teens are feral. I am not running that risk, I don't need more going on... Even my mother agrees not to say a thing, and to just have the three bigger dogs inside the house with us until she has moved on. I know it doesn't.. But at that hour, with a 6am start at work for a 9 hour shift, doesn't go down well. ETD: Going to go for a drive to a family friends' house to see if there is anything I can borrow to block the view. I used that doubled up to block of our fence off the side stop our dogs gazing out into the yard and barking if anyone went past. Well that was a preventative action. Know what you mean about weird neighbours. A few houses ago we had some strange kids next door who used to get up onto the back fence sit there, and throw stones at my dogs!!!!! I didnt know what they were doing for a while to set the dogs off so much til I caught them in the act. Then I went outside and said, now would you like it if I sat on the fence and threw stones at YOU?? Anyway they got a bit frightened I think after I caught them and never bothered our dogs again... BCPuppy Posted February 25, 2010 Share Posted February 25, 2010 I agree with cowanbree. It is up to the owner to stop this behaviour, there is no need for it if there is no provocation. I have two terriers next door that charge the fence and spit snarl and carry on if anyone goes within 2 metres of it, they bark all night at nothing if there is noone home. They are viscious nasty little dogs, but that is their owners fault . Fortunately we were able to fence off an area away from the boundary out back so that Marlin does not have to put up with them, we also used the weed matting so they cant even see into the yard. She just stands and looks at them as if to say wtf when they carry on if she is in the front yard. Pointees as suggested there are cheap options to fixing the fence too, some action on your part is better than keeping the dogs indoors. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
