Fuming

Took Charlie for his morning stroll this morning... some idiot woman comes over to Charlie and said 'oh. you come home with me. I won't starve you'... my boyfriend and I were standing right there! Rude much?

Maybe it's that time of the month, but I let it get to me, I snapped backed at her telling her I wasn't starving Charlie! And, she said that she is a Cavalier breeder for years and that Cavalier's are meant to be taller and more rounder around the tummy, so she knows when she looks at Charlie that I'm starving him. Then, start saying that Girls like me always worry about their weight and I'm punishing my dog to do the same because I want a little thin dog! WTF?

I told her if she was a Cavalier breeder then she will know straight off that Charlie is a Cavalier X... and before I could go off and put the idiot lady in her place, my boyfriend step in and told the lady to mind her own business, and pulled Charlie and me away.

;) so after reading that, it does sound silly... but I was so mad about the whole thing.

Note: Charlie is 5.5kg (he always been this weight since he was 7 months).

As if anyone can say no to this face?

(this is how Charlie begs for food (or anything)... he has this mastered at 8 weeks old!)

Yep - I have a Greyhound so you can imagine the comments I get. I had someone say to him the other day "Come home with me - I won't starve you". I just told her he is a Greyhound and meant to look like this!! Rude cow!!!

Yep, I get that too. My response is now standard - "nope, this is how they are supposed to look; you are probably just used to seeing so many obese dogs around the place". ;)

The stupid woman would also have no idea that Charlie has a medical problem and extra weight would be extremely detrimental to that condition.

Stupid womand , we have a few Cavs down here and I am quite sick of looking at overweight and obese Cavs.

And I love the comment about if she was a half decent breeder she would know he was a cross - good job!

Fat dogs in a breed with heart issues - ridiculous. :D

Honestly, if the woman really was a breeder (which I doubt) and had ANY form of people skills I think she could have aproached it differenty. As in 'Oh, is he pure bred? He looks to be slightly underweight'. That kind of thing. Which then would have given you an opening to say no he's a cross and yes he has some health problems that we are dealing with thank you. Even if she was really concerned there is no need for her to be so rude about it.

But from what I have seen of Charlies pics he certainly doesn't look underweight to me ;) Considering all his health problems he looks pretty darned good

LOL, I probably would have given her a mouthful too :welcome:

Ohh just ignore the ignorant "breeder". I have had enough of such remarks also. It is funny how people allow their dogs to balloon beyond a comfortable health weight then rant off at us who manage to maintain our dogs' "svelte" figures. :o

A lot of people have no idea what a healthy dog should like like, after working in a pound I cannot tell you how many fat dogs I have seen, some to the point of the poor thing not being able to walk without panting.

It's disgraceful and I think you did the right thing by showing her you weren't going to listen to her crap.

I did wanted to give her a earful and some... the boyfriend said I had my evil look in my eyes, which is a sign that I was going to explode and totally destroy her for being so rude :) and, i realise that she wasn't worth it... although, it would of felt nice to tell her off.

if she did approach me nicely and commented on Charlie's weigh... I would be happy to stand there talking to her and telling her about charlie's condition and why I have to keep him lean (he is not even underweight according to the vets).

I've seen fat dogs, especially Cavaliers, at the vets (i go to the vets a lot)... it's really sad. They go there because of heart problems or knee problems, due to their weight. There was a lady at the vet was telling me that she is struggling to feed her dog 6 days a week to get her Cav weight down, but if she didn't, her dog can have a heart attack! ;)
