C5 Vaccination & Worming/fleas

I just had Henry vaccinated today (12 week vaccination) with a C3 vaccination and another given as a squirt up the left nostril for bordatella and parainfluenza. The vet then mentioned that he does not need another vaccination until this time next year. Is it normal for a puppy to only have a C4 vaccination at 6 weeks of age and a C5 at 12 weeks? I thought there had to be another vaccination at 16 weeks?

Also since he is growing over the next few months (8.5kg at the moment), what is the best way to tackle worming and flea control? I do not really want to head down to a local pet store and purchase a whole pack of heartworm tablets or flea control when he will be putting on weight and will most likely not finish a pack. I am quite open to buying the products online if it works out cheaper and I can buy certain amounts for what weight range he is in.

Lastly - please feel free to recommend any products to me for Henry (chocolate labrador), there are so many products out in the marketplace I am not sure which ones I should be using - to use a combination of products (liquid applied to skin for fleas, and tablet for worming) or whether to use an all-in-one product for both fleas and worming.

My apologies if these topics have been covered to death on here... I did a search for vaccinations and did not seem to find a thread that answered my question - and thought I would throw in some worming and flea questions in for good measure as well - thanks for reading and look forward to some replies.

Hello and congrats on your new baby.

Our vet hospital has the same vaccination protocol.

Ours uses a C4 vaccination at 6 to 8 weeks and a C4 & intranasal BB at 12 weeks, then a yearly booster. It depends on the brand of vaccine used as different companies can have different recommendations for their products.

I would probably buy the 10 -25kg Flea spoton (advantage) and use that. I imagine he would not be over 25 kgs in 3 months? You could also leave it another couple of weeks until he is closer to 10 kgs before you use it. I however buy the biggest size and split it between my 3 so don't buy the individual sizes anyway. The cheapest Advocate spoton I have found (does heartworm, fleas and all worms except tapeworm and lots of other things like mange etc) is from here

ETA I use Advocate I find it easier than remembering to do heaps of different things, the only extra I have to do it a tapewormer every 3 months. I also live on acerage and have had Foxes through here so I like tha fact it also controld sarcoptic mange mite. If your dog swims a lot you may need a more waterfast rpoduct like frontline, then you will need seperate heartworm tablets and dewormer. My WHippets are not water dogs so not a problem for me
