Prydenjoy
I was just wondering if anyone has studied the CASI Diploma of Canine Behavior Science and Technology? I'm confused, it seems more in depth than the NDTF Dog Trainer Certification course, but it is almost half the price. Is one course better than the other? I've read the previous posts on dog trainer courses, but can't find the specific answers I'm looking for. I've emailed both of the organisations, but can't exactly ask them if they are better than the other I like the idea of the residentials with NDTF, but think missing them and going to workshops etc instead would be a good substitute (if I did the other course). The CASI course seems to cover more and be more technical. Am I right? Thanks!
Staff'n'Toller
From what I understand the CASI one is theory based and unfortunately it's not recognised here under the qualifications framework- I hope that changes, it seems like a great course. I think Cosmolo was looking at the CASI Dip. a while back so she can probably shed more light on it.
Prydenjoy
Thanks, can you elaborate? I asked the organiser if they were nationally recognised and he said they were, is there something I'm missing?
Erny
Jeanne - I can remember the other thread where the CASI Diploma was discussed, but only vaguely the details. I remember talking about the accreditation and whether it is recognised here, and I don't think that was the case. Do double check this because I am not confident that I'm right, but I think what THEY meant by "nationally recognised" is that CASI recognises those who pass the course, not necessarily that it is formally recognised by our Government. I think. I get a bit confused at times with the logistics of bureaucracy. I would be interested to know whether Cosmolo went ahead with it, and if she did, what she thought of it. I agree that it sounds like a good course. Edited February 22, 2010 by Erny
Staff'n'Toller
I only know as much as Erny. I understood that it was recognised in Canada but not here...but that could be different now. I know someone in SA who has completed it but she did it after the Cert IV Companion Animal Services.
haven
It needs to be nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework, which it isn't. That doesn't mean that it isn't a good course or that employers won't look favourably upon someone who has completed it however, but I would make a nationally recognised qualification my first priority when starting out in a new field. Prydenjoy
Ah thanks Haven, I was very confused but not so much now I guess one could do the NDTF course and if they are still interested in further study do the CASI course, with some advanced standing for some units? I think I'll end up doing the NDTF course knowing that, thanks heaps
