PoppyDog
So I know you shouldn't bath puppies too often so as not to dry out their skin. I bathed our CKCS X puppy last weekend with aloeveen. Since then we have had HEAPS of rain and so she has gotten dirty when going out to toilet. Is it too soon to bath her again this weekend? She also smells a bit! poodlefan
Provided you use a decent shampoo/conditioner, you can wash a dog once a week. That's what many show dogs get. I wash the poodles once every three weeks on average. They would get washed more often if they got dirtier.

poodlefan
Poodlefan - Is aloeveen what you would consider a decent shampoo? It's a very good shampoo. I don't like it but that's got nothing to do with its quality.
JulesP
Aloveen is a good shampoo. My pup is being bathed weekly at the moment. Mainly because I don't want to take a filthy dirty pup to pre-puppy school. I also want to get her well used to washing.

She was VERY good during bathtime last week! Would like her to be very good during all bathtimes so I guess now is a good time to get used to it! She does need a bath too! I've been wiping her tummy and paws down with huggies baby wipes everytime she comes in dirty from outside but it just doesnt do the job! poodlefan
PD: Excellent! Thats what I'm using! Can I ask why you don't like it and what you would use instead? You do realise you're chatting to someone who has about 8 dog shampoos in the house! I don't like it because I don't care for the smell, it doesn't seem to foam enough for my taste and I think it's over priced. That said, I know plenty of people who use it and the results are great. I just prefer other products. For washing very frequently, I prefer a conditioning shampoo or one with an oil added. Without breaking the bank, I'd recommend: Fido's Emu Oil Shampoo Plush Puppy Conditioning Shampoo with Evening Primrose Groomers Shampoo with Evening Primrose These are not the cheapest shampoos around but before you faint at the prices, bear in mind that most can be diluted up to 8:1 with water. For a dog with a fair bit of white, you might like to wash the white bits first in a white enhancing shampoo and then finish all over with a conditoning shampoo. PoppyDog
Poodlefan - I LOVE the smell of aloeveen! And yes it was exxy but I shopped around and found it for $20. It was $36.95 at PP! I had heard good things about Plush Puppy too but haven't seen it in any of our local petshops yet. Might have to buy online!

Buying in bulk is another way to get more bang for your buck. You can get a litre of it for under $40 here. Keep your small bottle and decant it into the little one for use. tlc
I bath my lot once a week and to begin with I used Aloveen but it soon became to expensive with 4, I don't stick to any one particular shampoo, depends how cashed up I am when I need it and it doesn't bother my lot and thier coats. I use a horse whitening shampoo once a month on my white girl, it is called glo white, its great! Slightly off topic but Poodlefan, do you use conditioner on your Poos? and if so what? Poppydog, I have noticed in some of your posts you have said Poppy is a X do you mind if I ask what she is crossed with? Can you post a pic? or have you posed a pic somewhere? I use a moisturing shampoo instead. Current favourite is the Groomers EPO. Does a great job on the Whippet too!
tlc
Ok cool, is that something you can buy at a pet shop or is it a specialty thing? I forgot to mention in my last post that vetproductsdirect.com have aloveen a lot cheaper than anywhere else I have seen it. I have the Aloveen conditoner on hand as the vet recommended it after a bath as a leave in, for one of my girls as she has a slight allergy in summer to grass. You can get it online here Groomers has a van that does some Victorian shows I think. I tried it after reading about it here. DOLers with dogs with allergies recommended the vet grade one. I love the smell too! I've tried the white enhancing one but prefer others. Edited February 20, 2010 by poodlefan

PoppyDog
I can't find Puppy Plush Shampoo on that site you sent me to Poodlefan! But WOW! The aloeveen is half the price I payed! pie
PD, Plush Puppy do have their own site: http://plushpuppy.com.au/ Not sure where else you can buy it from, PF will probably know. I wash my dogs every week or two because they are in the house a lot and we have a sandy backyard so they get dirty quickly! I'm lucky that they both have short single coats and only take 5 minutes to dry. I used to use Aloveen but don't anymore, it was okay. I use a Fido's one on Trixie and another one on Kyzer, can't remember the name! I don't use a conditioner, I use a coat oil though because it stops their skin from getting dry. I liked the smell of Aloveen too I have been hearing about this Groomer's EPO shampoo but had been trying to ignore it.... wish I didn't see the link for the shop! Can you direct me to where I can find Puppy Plush? I bought mine direct from the website amypie posted. Petnetwork also have it but given that Plush Puppy are in Qld, postage will be cheaper from them. If you give them a call, they should be able to give you a local stockist or they may even sell direct to you.
