Was great watching both rounds Wuffles and LuvLottie! You guys both looked great I hope I look half as composed at my first trial. A good weekend for Aussies!

Well done wuffles and kath!!

Do we get to see the video, RV?

Edit: how did I miss your post, LuvLottie?!?! Well done to you, too!!

It's a bit boring :thanks: Like 5 mins long and quite a lot of it is just me playing with Toby.

Thanks again! It was just so nice to be a trial and actually competing, and not just watching

Great work, LL... what great little mismarks we have! Your heel pattern was a lot harder than ours, is that a QLD thing?

Yay to the little mismarks - such good girls :D , and not sure about the heel pattern, but what I did seems to be what is usually done in CCD, it must be a QLD thing! It was by the figure of 8s she was loosing a bit of focus! We'll see how she goes this coming weekend!

Just a little question - does anyone have a good video showing footwork for turns, I really need to get mine better but I like watching videos as it really helps see how to do them better!!

No video but this is what I am working on at the moment...

Left turn: left foot at 60 degree angle turning left with heel approx level to right toes. Bring right foot around so it is pointing in the exact direction you are turning. Small step to bring left foot in line and away you go.

Right turn: bring left foot perpendicular to right foot/toes, turn right foot in the direction you want to go, small step to straighten up left foot and go.

ETA: There's a video of me practicing this with Zig but it's not a great example - you can certainly see where I get it right AND wrong

Thank you TSD!! I will try that out and see how I go!

And thanks Ness, i'll go youtubing as well :D

Well done wuffles and LL you should both be very proud of your kids  That does seem to be a typical Qld heeling pattern... are there any judges who deviate from it or is it kinda set in stone??? Wuffles..just a comment on your recall...(I am the hand Nazi)...watch where your hands start and finish!! It sux when you lose points but your dog does it right!! :D

Thanks bedazzledx2... I was wondering what you were talking about but I rewatched the video and my hands did drop a bit after my recall command :D No-one has ever pointed it out to me so you may have saved me some points in the future :D

This is done by a Rally-O judge but shows the foot work quite well.

I stopped being a sook and went to training. Poppy did a very nice CCD/CD round. Pretty happy. I swear the less training I do with her now the better she is. Amber was pretty good. The food in on the ground has really helped her stand for exam. She is still looking for me on the return but is keeping her feet still now.

Lovely run wuffles - and a big congrats!! :D

Aw Kathq, I didn't see you today - I was too busy trying to concentrate!! Congrats on a lovely run!!

So I have a little brag.... me and Lot had our first ccd trial, and we passed and came 2nd with a 92 (which I know isn't the highest mark, but i'm still super happy and proud of her!!) :D I am just so proud of my girl - she worked her little toosh off (shame about her dodgy handler :rofl: who needs to learn how to turn properly which is where we lost most our marks heeling!!), her heelwork was great with lots of enthusiam most of the time (except our firgure of 8s - oops, she definitely got distracted, a bit off track here!!), and as she came in from the recall, came in crooked so lost 3 points there... BUT her stays were soooo super solid with the dogs on both sides breaking!!

Sooooo we have LOTS of homework this week

The judge also came and had a chat to me after it had all finished and had some lovely things to say, so I can't wipe the smile off my face!!!

Heres the video - I know I have lots to work on  .

Well done LL!!! That's great news! So when's your next trial cos you know that you can't just stop at 1! LOL

I can't think of a single judge that I've trialled under who doesn't do all 3 positions in each of the 3 paces... there are a few judges who's patterns are bit different looking but still don't drop off any positiions anywhere. I don't know why they do it... maybe I'll understand when I start going to judges training hopefully later this year.

The logic for all three positions in all three paces I was told is to give the dogs enough opportunities to complete one of each position type in the heel pattern.

The newbie judges seem to go with this. The older judges seem to be then happy with less but if you haven't nailed at least one of a particular type of position you will normally get a final chance at the end of the figure 8 (at least that is my experience).

So if the heeling pattern is like that in CCD, are they any harder in Novice and Open, etc..? That CCD routine looked more intense than the 2 Open ones I had on the weekend!

Are you going to be an obedience judge Seita? That's awesome!

 well RS I was looking back at some old trial videos the other day and the Novice pattern Kenz had last weekend was the same pattern this judge uses in Open. So I suspect they don't get any harder (least not here they don't). Maybe the judging gets a little tougher. Edited by ness

I find that most judges use the same heeling pattern for all levels of competition and are a bit more lenient on the lower levels and get tougher in Open, UD etc. I don't mind having a harder/longer pattern it's just the fast pace that I hate! I love how many interstate judges do a really short section of fast pace and that's all... the qld judges all seem to make you do the same sort of distance in fast pace as all the other paces... and I'm not fit!!! LOL

Yep I'm planning on becomming a jugdge, sent my application in a few weeks ago and hope to hear back from dogsQLD in the next month or so after the applications close. The judges I know all think I'll be accepted into the program so it's looking pretty positive! :D

I am so pleased you went back to training and your girls did so well. Well done for biting the bullet and returning! You even got a bonus with good training rounds!

Next sunday is our first Novice trial!

I am still not at panic stations ...yet...

Cindy is still lagging about 30cm but is consistennt in that position unless I look at her so I am working on the best hand position I can use (excluding a thumb on her collar  )

I have wondered about her drive. I am now convinced that she has ZERO prey drive. Walking her on Sunday with my daughter's dog, Maia - a border collie x - we spot a rabbit. Maia takes off. Cindy hides behind my legs and waits til the rabbit is gone and then gives chase ;)

Not concerned about the drive but any hints about the heeling would be gratefully accepted!
