kathq
Had one of those training sessions you would love to bottle last night.. My super hyped girl seemed to realize at long last that this is serious and not a game, so kept her enthusiasm but seemed to buckle down and really concentrate and work. I didnt feel like I only just had control of her by the thinnest of strings but that there was never a doubt she would do it like I know she can.. Am feeling very content this morning. Sue & Waldo
Well I have a double trial tomorrow and have not done much training for 10 days. I have been away and also had a shocking cold. I have discovered that Cindy's drops are lost and SFE broken I suppose it is worth the 1.5 hour drive early tomorrow (Note to self- I do this becasue Cindy and I enjoy it )
sas
Wrecked Dante today at the trial with my nerves - not sure how to combat it - it was truely a horrendous performance and I left straight after the heel pattern. We were last in and I took him back in after everything was done and.....he was fine.....I had no nerves left by then. Advice?

Advice? Wine?? LOL. Sorry, I'm no help here, I have the same problem To the point where she can be on fire just before we walk in the ring and then when we do walk in, will drop out of drive (which freaks me out and stresses me out even more) and it's all down hill from then. Part of my problem is also the way I handle her before we go in the ring, it's different to how I will handle her at training too, so I've been changing that lately so she will basically be crated right up until we go in the ring. JulesP
No help either. Same problem here but I can't even go into the trial practice ring at club! Had a horrible run through today. Very depressed.
huski
I hate when you have a bad run and the judge and anyone watching think that you are a crap trainer and/or your dog is poorly trained. I always end up wanting to explain that my dog isn't normally total crap, that it was all handler error ETA: Although at our last trial (usually referred to The Worst Trial Ever) the judge said she thought it was all my handling and said "I bet she normally does pretty good heelwork doesn't she?" and then after the trial walked by when I was doing a bit of heel work with Daisy and commented on how good it was, I just needed to get my nerves sorted. I did try champers and juice BUT the toilets were such a long walk away and I was going like 4 times an hour so I had to put a stop to that! I can take a calm-a-tive myself next week and perhaps even give Dante calming powder to lessen his reaction to me, bless him, he's just so sensitive to me. Ok, well if I figure anything out, I'll let you know!

The judge I had today gave me a pass 2 weeks ago when Dante worked quite well - I think I felt even worse because of that, he asked me what I did to my dog At least he knows it was me and not my dog! Advice? I get really nervous too, it does get better the more you trial, also watching clips like the one Ptolomy makes you realise it should fun, its not like we win a million for it...lol Be confident in how good you have trained your dog. Think of it as a chance to show your dog off (as a wise trialler told me today). At the end of the day, you do take your favourite dog home:)) Edited September 26, 2010 by PAX

I always end up wanting to explain that my dog isn't normally total crap, that it was all handler error At the end of the day, do you really know what people are thinking?? They are probably wondering what they are going to have for dinner that night We all know the pitfalls of trialling...even the best trainers have had bad days in the ring...they take that experience and find solutions to their poor performance. Embrace what you learn in a poor trial and don't worry about those outside the ring...use that energy on you and your dog and things that you can control I had an average day in the ring yesterday...all my fault and I know where I let my dog down...had a Royal crowd watching...I have no idea what they were all thinking and I don't really care...am I going back tomorrow?? Sure am
