Ptolomy
We had our jumping debut and novice obedience debut at last year's Melbourne Royal. It was a VERY long day - especially for jumping where we were only entered in one run......and had to wait until 5pm for it!!! If I enter this year I will enter as many runs as we are capable of just to make the day go faster I would love to have come over for the Melbourne Royal this year BUT the accommodation costs go from $155 per night to $295 per night at show time which just makes it unaffordable add to this flights, car hire, dog airfare, food and entries and I could think of 100 other ways to spend $1500
pie
Amypie it is worth doing - just wanted to warn you of the set-up. Agility at the Royal gets the biggest crowds - much bigger than the Agility National Finals. with kids sitting on the ring ropes eating all sorts. You do have the option of sitting on the other side of the road near where they show the sheep, you wont see the ring from there, but you will have more room.I think the Classic would probably be the next team event. Okay might ponder it a bit more and see if we get out of our current rut. (We meaning me ) There is an ACWA teams trial advertised in the latest Cannine news, can't remember the date though. A Royal Debut! :D You're brave TSD

pie
Did you buy those weave poles then? Mine are still in production but now have peg holes drilled in them thanks to RubyStar's handywork (yes she can operate a power tool) Hopefully I'll have them this weekend. Food is overrated, but puppies are awesome! :D

bedazzledx2
Go on!!! Its a heap of fun and!!! Anything can happen at the Royal so if you don't take it too seriously you will have great day with your mates both human and canine There aren't all that many agility trials either - not such a bad thing really. I've been asked to join a team for the Royal with Kyzer but still can't decide whether to do it or not.

Where you leave the dogs for obedience, can they be "heard" in the ring? :D

Ptolomy
So what are everybody's thoughts on entering obedience at a Royal Show - would you or wouldn't you  and why
RallyValley
I wouldn't because my dogs can't do obidience yet  but I am debating with Tobys royal entry for agility cause he can be a stress head. Lincoln I wouldn't hesitate because of growing up as a show puppy and his natural temprament mean he is pretty laid back as long as I took a Kong or something for the down time. ness
I have done four separate occasions times (one novice, 3 open and twice in UD) and not passed on any occasion. Have only ever once completed the exercises and got through to stays - still brings back some sad memories that night because its the first time she has ever broken a stay and to think she was sitting in third place behind 2 absolutely awesome WA dogs to have blown it still hurts a little  . Even worse this year they have dumped the obedience at the end of the show so the grounds will be a disaster. When we trialled last year it was on night 2 and the ring had huge chunks of dried liver on the ground. Edited June 25, 2010 by ness
