Thanks for posting that Ptolomy - I should do some more chair work with Rory to help prevent chomping and straighten his sit. (He did do a nice DB in the ring on Sunday - 28/30 - lost a couple for slightly squiffy sit.)

Go for it Toller, good luck

Our training bomded tonight with Orlando after he coped an injury :( me bad girl

So what happened ot Orlando I hope he is ok

We were at kcc Park lastnight, when I was opening the door he managed to get his front right paw caught underneath

made one of his nails bleed, he was limping pretty bad. I soaked his foot in warm salty water that helped a lot

When I lifted him onto the table to practice a Show stand is when I found the blood I just put him back in the car to rest & helped work the rest of our clubbys that were there.

He is now putting wieght back on the foot now but I will give him a couple of days to recover before I work him again

Hmmm not good TSD - I thought since she had been really good the last week or so we might finally have been making progress. Chiro vet yesterday released all the tight muscle spasms but unfortunately it appears that was what was holding her shoulder back together so I was getting really good extension but when he fixed those the shoulder instability returned. The eventual goal is to try and build up enough supporting scarring to hold the shoulder together and still have the the surrounding muscles relaxed. She is on short leash walks till Sunday and then I am to ring him next week and we will decide what to do from here.

Surgery hasn't been ruled out of the equation - well at least it was mentioned as to whether the specialist thought she was a good candidate :( and knowing the chiro he wouldn't have bought it up if he didn't think it might be necessary. He tends to er on the side of caution and not rushing into things like that unless deemed that it would help.

I guess on the positive he thought obedience would be ok but given at the moment she is pretty much ruled out of jumping indefinitely I am not sure if she will end up getting past Novice :(. Never mind the fact its obviously bothering her on her sit stays which is why she has failed the trials she has so far. If she can barely manage a minute in novice, a 3-4 min open sit stay is going to probably undo her anyway :(.

What do you guys take to an obedience trial thats a couple of hours away from home? Apart from the dog

Since swapping dog clubs and training on a Saturday it means we get 4 trial ring specific training sessions before the Aug trial which makes me feel better! Another question- I understand if your dog has a title in one ring it must not compete in that ring and must go into the next ring.

What happens if you enter a trial say in CCD and the dog gets all its passes and can compete in the CD ring but your next trial is entered in CCD? eg- Ive entered 3 trials in September and am wondering if I enter a 4th (assuming we bomb this one in Aug) but we pass and get into the CD ring will we be moved to the right ring? Hope that makes sense.

The hardest part is I trained her Monday afternoon and you wouldn't know she has the injury she does :(. Nobody really knows what is the matter and short of opening up the shoulder and having a closer look I think we are only managing to treat the symptoms as they emerge. The specialist suggested if I was going to go to the expense of getting an MRI done to assess the damage then it was money better spent on scoping the shoulder and going in and repairing what needed to be repaired all in the one sitting but she isn't really sure what is going on either despite the ultrasound and x-rays.

Nothing really adds up in her case at the moment and its not consistent enough for me to avoid the problem by just avoiding particular activities. Some days she can go on huge runs/long walks and have no issues. Then other days we do bugger all and she is sorer then ever.

.

Bugger ness :( I would be opting for surgery at this stage. Open that sucker up and see if they can find and fix anything. It's a risk I'd be willing to take since the problem has been going on for so long with no real outcome with various treatments.

Get well soon, Kenzie!

It's so tough with a young, active dog too. I've been off colour for several day, I dragged myself out yesterday to train the dogs and now Em has limber tail. Keeping her quiet for this long has been difficult enough. Thinking of you, ness, and sending healing vibes to Kenz.

That sucks Ness, what a shame your not in Sydney. We do a platelet treatment, especially for soft tissue and joint damage. Like iRap for horses, but with more cytokines stimulated.

We have successfully treated a Grand Champion show dog, and countless Greyhounds. Have put at least 10 'stopper tendon' injured greyhounds back on the track, which is normally career ending.

We are doing the treatment for free at the moment, in conjunction with a local vet for companion dogs. PM me if your interested as we could send your vet what's needed to do it.

Sorry to hear about Em TSD and thanks everybody for all the healing vibes and good wishes for Kenz. Wish I had a crystal ball that would tell me what the answer was.

I guess the cost side of things is one of the reasons I wouldn't be keen to open it up but also I find it hard to go to opening her up when they still don't know. Part of me is scared that it will make a problem that we are living with and I think is bothering me more then the dog into something much bigger. The specialist was a little vague and it was more we will see what the situation is when we open it up and then treat what we find. That might open up a huge can of worms and I am really not sure its a path I want to go down until we have exhausted absolutely everything.

Besides which the specialist was still pretty convinced it was one thing and the chiro vet is pretty convinced its something else. Hmmmmmm normally you would side with a specialist but I just didn't get a sense out of her that it was anything more than guesswork. Even with her knocked out under GA she passed no comment on the laxity in her shoulder which the chiro vet was clearly able to palpate without her even being under. Specialist seemed hung up on it being biceps tendonitis even though the results were inconclusive.

Lots of sleepness nights have been had in the last few months I can tell you that much :(.

ETA. Have PMd you inevitablue.

I use a wooden one. Go to Bunnings and get a sample tin of outdoor gloss white and a cheapo brush.

I've been told I need to paint the ends of my wooden dumbbell so that my dog can see it. Have you guys painted yours, and what type of paint did you use?

Oh, Em is fine - limber tail is not uncommon in the gundogs....especially when they are silly enough to run around like lunatics before diving into the freezing cold water. She's not particularly fussed by it but I think it heals more quickly if they rest.

inevitablue, that sounds promising and much less invasive. Certainly worth a shot!
