RubyStar Posted May 13, 2011 Share Posted May 13, 2011 (edited) JulesP, I have a broken recall and DOR at the moment with Millie Ruby's Open exercises all seem to be working currently (even the dreaded SFE is passable at the moment and her DOR), but SHE is broken! So we are most likely scratching from next weekend's obedience trial. Boo!! Definitely scratching from agility. It was her JDX debut as well! Ptolomy, the main issue is that he doesn't reliably get it yet that he's not allowed to move from his position to go to another dog. He's fine with Kirra, and with my friend's BC that he knows well and respects, but I just haven't been able to do enough consistent work with him in situations with less well known dogs. He has gone to a girl (to flirt) twice, and there's always a risk in my mind that he'll go to a male to posture or worse. Dropping out of a sit has also happened once or twice, although I think that is pretty much fixed for the moment - and that's not a mjaor crime in my book, since it's less likely to affect another dog. I couldn't get in the CCD practice ring so I went in the Open one instead I haven't trained the exercises but Poppy did a pretty good job and I was very proud of her. It is interesting how you can do the exercises by training bits of them i.e. Poppy can jump and can do the dumbbell on the flat so was happy to go over the jump to get it. I thought it interesting that she just came back on the straight line too rather than ducking around the jump. Her DOR was very spiffy if I do say so myself!!! COP we got a bit of movement forwards in the sit but as I haven't been training it, I was pleased she actually sat. I didn't do the out of sight stays though as it took me about a year to get her to stay and I didn't want to push the friendship! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Tassie I am having sit stay issues at the moment. I have been flogging downs and rewarding them with some very high value treats so if in doubt she is offering a down. I also have to admit that I really have lumped the sit stay training. She went from a dog who looked like I beat her ever day of her life in a sit stay to having a small break and coming back and sitting confidently for 60 seconds and I have just sort of lumped and gone out of sight knowing full well that she is not solid on her in sight ones yet. Yesterday she dropped at 2 1/2 minutes, today it was 75 seconds - which just confirmed she doesn't understand sit stay. So I have gone back to trying to lure her out of a sit with food, then once this was solid, I started standing in front of her and say are you ready.....and of course she was and she moved, so we worked on this, then I added running off and that made her move very quickly, so we are currently working through that one, this morning I also threw a dokken which she just loves and this was wayyyy above where we are at at the moment - so we have gone back to me running from her in all directions. I am trying to work through each step fairly quickly tomorrow if all goes well I am going to walk away and sit on the ground, I will also walk away and walk around the car, perhaps that will be an opportunity to bring the dokken out again and see what happens. She did a few silly things (wrong glove whoops) and then much to my horror sat up as I was walking into the ring after the drop stay!!!! It was very obvious today that I haven't been training our seekback (had some trouble finding it) or our groups at all and that we clearly need to do lots of work on distraction training as she was a little miss busy body today! We had our first go at Rally-O today for the heck of it and got a qually there which helped make me feel a bit better LOL! I'm going to have to embark on a serious training program with Ella if I want to do well at the State and National Trials next month! Lot of day time work to be done too! Ptolomy Posted May 15, 2011 Share Posted May 15, 2011 (edited) Yep will enter 2 dogs and it will depend on what the specialist says about Scoota whether he makes the trip or if Soggy gets a gurnsey. Entries close at the start of June and a lot can happen in 3 weeks. Think I would rather my problem than yours Ness. Hence if anybody finds Soggy's sit stay can you please send it back!
