I am so over it!! I can't train at my local oval as its been turned into a free for all, dogs offlead area so I go to the next suburb. Now this one has been overtaken by morons who have no control :mad I had just finished a short training session with Brookie and put him in the car and brought out Zac (6 month old) to do a little bit when this utter moron (I could say a few other words) rocked up and let his 2 large dogs straight out of the car...no collars or leads and they made a bee line for Zac with the one of them with his hackles up grrrr!!!!!

My last kelpie girl was attacked in just this situation when she was around the same age and she never got over it so I just bundled Zac back into the car as fast as I could at the same time asking the owner to put his dogs on a lead PLEASE!!! Well I was totally unprepared for the torrent of abuse from this poor excuse for a man!!! Yelling at me that his dogs just want to play what did I think..his dog was savage????

I have to travel 45 minutes down the hill to our K9 grounds to train just so I can ensure my dogs are safe. Not fair!!! :mad OK rant over...I feel better now ;)

Is this the main oval opposite the post office? If you can handle a 5 min drive and want to train out of school hours the oval at Helena Valley primary is good, close shady parking and laid out so you cab easily see people coming.

Yep I clicker train and love it and is really the only way I would do it now unless someone could show me a way that worked better :)

Thanks for the compliment Luv Lottie. I know I have heaps to learn and improve on, but we are all happy so that goes a loongg way :)

Does anyone find their dog works harder when it starts to get quite cold? We were freezing at training tonight but Daisy loves it.

A little snippet of work from tonight :) My foot work is atrocious - it is terribly difficult to walk in gumboots especially when they are too big!

And another one... don't mind my hands, I was mucking around with the reward placement to see if her eye contact would falter much.

Daisy certainly was happy to night - I haven't seen any clips of her working for a while and yep my kids all work in overdrive when its a bit cooler.

I think you need to ditch the gum boots!!

and

put about turns on your work in progress list!

LOL yep already on the list! Kinda hard to avoid it after watching the vids back  but then again that is why I video myself :)

I don't think I've posted a vid of D working since the end of last year probably? Lazy trainer :o

Hi Huski have you thought of getting a pair of riding boots from the local produce/saddlery store. I got a pair of rubber ones that come up to the knees. I find them hell of a lot better than gumbies :D

the vid's are good

Hmmm no I haven't Murve thanks for the tip! I just needed something tonight so got my sister's old ones, the grounds were wet and muddy - they were awful to walk in but my feet did stay dry

Yep my girls work much better in cooler weather, and if it's night time, even better! I kept tonight very light and fun, and Millie was a bundle of fun. Ruby was too but she's just not as psycho as Millie  They were very good kids tonight, so I've come home very happy! Ruby did a speedy DOR, probably the fastest I've seen her do, wahoo!! I've changed my drop signal back to my old one (will get you to check it over again Ptolomy ) because I find the girls are responding better to it. I just have to be conscious not to bring the signal in front of my body. Did some signals heelwork with Millie tonight, including COP at the end and she nailed it :cheer: She's always worked better with signals over verbals, which makes life a bit easier when it come to UD I guess :)

Daisy looks very happy. It is such a pleasure to see her working like that. When you started before your training with Steve she was nowhere near as focused - now she rocks :)

Oh yeh and definately ditch the gumboots! :D

Mine do not work well at all when it is cold unless they have a nice warm coat on - oh and they hover drop went he grass is wet! I also would doubt they would stick a full times stay unless they ahd a coat on when it is cold, especially cold wind

Put a blanket under them!

They will do it but reluctantly!

It an old KNPV trick, german schutzhund use it tooo

all you need is a bath tub, dog & start with warm water :D

Random question :o What shoes does everyone wear in the trial ring? I am trying to find some outfits which make me look presentable but am a bit stuck on shoes. I only ever wear my sneakers to train as they are comfortable but they don't look very classy with nice pants or even jeans :p

You could do what showies do and get a pair of skechers that are like Mary Janes (kind of) but lightweight and grippy.

I have a pair like that, RV, but they don't really seem comfortable or warm or practical enough for the ring? :o

If it is acceptable to wear sneakers than I shall continue wearing sneakers I guess

Wuffles people seem to not make much of an effort in the trial ring here - not even at the Royal . I think sneakers and jeans are fine for a normal trial. i think I still look reasonably neat and presentable and that is what I normally wear.
