OSoSwift
Probably best to go directly to the ANKC for the latest rules...there was some tweaks even after they were first posted. http://www.ankc.org.au/Rules.aspx I'll be happy to do a few SFE for you before you go in the ring if you like. OSS - there is no returning around after the recall anymore (as of 1st of January 2011) - the recall exercise in CCD now finishes when the dog is sitting in front and after the judge says exercise finished . Oh really?? I thought I read in the link you gave me that you do....will go off and read again that is good news then Now to try and get Lewis not to fidget after the recall!! Can't even twitch a finger or he moves! Thanks for that bedazzled, might just take you up on the offer. She is normally rock solid so I am hoping that it comes back. Today Lewis forgot how to recall properly, so am running through what I was doing and how he was reacting in my head and I will try a few different things tomorrow and see what happens. Bloody dogs always breaking something!!! Will persuse this link
caffy
First Day back at training - and just when you think the UDX message is sinking in - you do the first exercise and realise you are totally wrong and it is all down hill from there so you get dog # 2 out and plan to do UD - she fails the seekback, directed jumping and scent, in fact she has no idea what day it is - so you put her away and get out dog # 3 - who is the blonde one who you expect nothing from and who hasn't seen a UD exercise in months and she does a really good job and puts a smile back on your face - Goodonya Beans Think I should have stayed home Whoops! Plus you had awesome company. Surprisingly, I had a good night training! My blondie who has started to lack enthusiasm lately was full of beans tonight wanting to work! Got some good stuff out of her (except that blasted SFE ) Millie came out firing, gave everything 110%! The sit signal in COP just dropped out of her head for a moment and I have a bit more work to do with retrieve over solid jump, but quite happy with everything else, especially DOR which has had the least amount of work go into it
JulesP
Just having a read of the rules and noticed this: About Turns: Handlers are to execute about turns, i.e. pivot and or U turns, as they see fit during the heeling routine without penalty. Has that always been in? What does it mean? That you can do an about turn whenever you want to?
ness
great that you had a fantastic night RubyStar and yep definitely sounds like you shoulda stayed home Ptolomy although nice to see Beans came through eh .

Has that always been in? What does it mean? That you can do an about turn whenever you want to? I believe that is referring to the type of turn. You should not be penalised for doing a U-turn, rather than a pivot.

RallyValley
Well I had an awful night at training... my dog got so overstimulted by the whole 4 other dogs that he refused food and could not concentrate. However this morning on our walk we stopped at a little bush reserve he has never been to before and he played tug!!! (With his nice leather leash )

Sorry if the arrival of my dogs put him off RV Gotta say I'm happy with Ruby, she didn't run off to greet anyone while working last night, which is big for her Edit: but the temptation was low, we worked with a fair bit of space around us. She did think about returning the dummy to Ptolomy but a quick reminder I was who she needed to bring it to saw her change her path and deliver nicely Edited January 11, 2011 by RubyStar

I am scared to teach this... mine just don't get the concept of taking direction! This is one thing I think Toby could do well at! At the moment I play a game where I get out 2 or 3 bikes and lay them on the driveway and send him from heel position with my hand pointing to a bike and say "touch" he will go up and touch/paw that bike and recall back to front for a treat... he sometimes will take a long route back and jump over the bike or another bike on the way

wuffles
Noobie question... what are the pros and cons of pivot turn vs u turn? Which does everyone here do, does anyone switch between the two depending on the situation or dog? I am just doing u turns because I can't get my head around pivots ;)
huski
I always do the pivot left about turn. I used to do the round the back one but I much prefer the pivot one since I trained it. It was easier to train then I thought - I started by training the 'elephant trick' where you get the dog to stand with its front paws on a phone book or similar and use its back legs to walk around it. There are heaps of good videos on youtube that demonstrate how to do it, TerraNik has some good ones too.
