This morning I had a great little training session with Bear :) . I've done bits and pieces with him since his arrival on Monday but today I actually made a plan and we did the name game, play, collar, play with the raccoon tail(he loves this toy ;) ), give the toy - this one needs work  . I'm really excited about this training journey, he's my first pup I've started with a whole lot more knowledge on positive training, it's going to be fun  .

Here's the little guy

Tiggy your pup is super cute

Ptolomy remember the harder/trickier ones always teach you the most. :)

I am currently feeling frustrated with my club. Struggling with the whole 'must pass basic obedience' before you go into the trial ring. I seem to have to be fixing things up after each time I go into class. A guy next to me growled at his dog during stays on Sunday which freaked Amber out for the rest of her stays.

Can you not take her out of classes, train her up and then ask them to assess her individually?

Nope. I could not do classes and then just do the test. The only issue with that is there is all this socialisation stuff in the test. It is a bit unfair to the other dogs to have a strange dog put in just for the test.

Well Brookie is as dumb as a plank!!! I love him dearly but.... I like your Srat Pairs UDX suggestion....Positions in motion are lovely...um Distance Control....that's about it folks...any takers???!!!

Hmm I think UDX was created to turn me grey.

I have decided that my little red man is definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed :) and its a case of one step forward, 10 backwards, 3 sideways and then back to the drawing board at the moment

:) poor Brookie and Scoota you can send them both here if you decide you don't want them anymore  . As for me I actually decided to train Ness last night and thought I'd polish some of her open work before the weekend and promptly managed to break her retrieve on the flat in the process - urgh. Hopefully I don't manage to break her UD exercises tonight - maybe I should just stay home and take my luck at the trial LOL. Edited by ness

Jules P - I feel your pain. Where is the next nearest club - is there any chance of changing clubs?? OR do you really need to be a member of a club if it is causing more issues than benefits?

Bedazzled - its the look on the face when you ask the dog to "fetch" and its like they have never heard that word in their entire lives, that gets me...........

......and yet the day before they did it with style :)

:) least he waited Ptolomy - Ness didn't even bother to wait for the "fetch". Kenz on the other hand little doesn't seem to forget or if she does she goes 2 steps and then goes hmmmm didn't hear the command I better come put myself back into heel  . Edited by ness

What happens for those who don't train at a club? They aren't allowed to trial?

You guys are too hard on your boys with their boy brains  I saw some lovely very enthusiastic positions from Scoota :) Sure he came sideways a bit  And Brookie's positions in motion did look lovely!

Trial ring at club RubyStar

I looked at the other local clubs Ptolomy and they all seem to do the go through the levels first. My club seems to be the most formal about it though. We do have some pretty good people helping out in our trial ring.

Amber puppy now has automatic change of positions. She looks so pleased with herself :) I reckon I should get double points for that!

That was the rule at our club to JulesP but I just trained Kenz up to the suitable standard by myself - they couldn't very well say you have to do the classes when she was working better then 90% of what was already doing ring work.

Bear's training this morning was the 'come and go' game, so cute watching him race out to go get his treat then race back to come get another, he's such a smart little cookie ;) and he loved the chicken sausage I was using  .

I did the same game with Banjo first, WOW he was excited :hug: , his training has been neglected of late due to my puppy brain  , I was struggling to click and treat him fast enough :) .

Just as a point of interest, I bought some chicken sausages for my little man, put a piece in my mouth for him to take, it was so so salty, have you tasted yours

Billy luves fish, that is his high value treat Beagie

As far as I am aware no one at least in WA has to belong to a Club in order to trial, you just have to belong to, in our case, Dogs West, there is nothing in the

ANKC that says you have to belong to a Club to trial. Please correct me if I am wrong Beagie

I think she meant her club won't let her in the practice trial ring on club grounds until she has passed their basic obedience classes.

haha where do you think I got all my grey hair from and doing Inka there wont be any red left at all by the time I get her in the ring and yep have to agree with the one step forward, 10 backwards, 3 sideways and then back to the drawing board at the moment. Especially when you think they have got it done it a few times and than it becomes the what never done it before look and that lasts for awhile and than you get the ohh why didnt you just say so look

I didn't find them salty, I usually use the kangaroo sausages because Banjo is a fatty boomba but the chicken were marked down so I grabbed them for a change ;) .
