FranVT
Toddled off to what I thought was my second-last night of training before graduation last night as usual. We had two weeks washed out from the rain! Got there and found the other guy in my group and we went to find our trainer. She said that she was taking a different class that week because they couldn't afford to get further behind so we had to do our examinations right then! Lucky we were both 15 mins early. Luuka did really well, she was very focused and responsive. We passed So when training started we went straight into intermediate Our new trainer is great and really helped me with some stuff I need to work on (turns mostly). I think we only have four or five nights left for the year! So happy with how Luuka went, she is a star
Ptolomy
I was blown away with Bedazzled and Plotomys stays at the Royal, those dogs just sat in the benches with no restraints all day. was awesome.Lets me know where my training needs to improve:)) Pax - I promise it should be this weekend that I watch your video there are just not enough hours in the day at the moment. Have added the States video to your first one and I can't wait

Tassie
Hmmm why is it that my dog has a much better sit stay if I am not standing there watching her. Just took her outside in the yard at lunchtime and got a rock solid sit while I was walking out of sight and doing other things - if I stand there and watch her she is more likely to lay down . I have a similar problem with Rory - too much 'steady feet' game, I think - so he has a nice agility-type stay - can hold it with me moving away, and doing various stuff - but obedience stay, either on or off lead, with me not moving - hmmmm - yes - still a work in progress . And he's started doing the dropping out of the sit in obedience stays - blinking BC :D . I think I've mentioned one trial I did in Vic with my Sam - Open sit stay - 10 dogs in the ring - 3 BCs - 2 of them UD titled - came back out from the hide - 3 out of the 10 down - yep - sll the 3 BCs. I was quite pleased with Sam, cos apparently he was the lasst one to go down - must have looked along and decided it was a BC unione rule . With Sam, I worked really hard at getting him to understand that 'sit' was a good position to be in - but I obvioulsy did a bit too much of that - cos every now and then he would pop up as I returned to him from a long down (even a 10 minute one in the old UD

Ptolomy
Anybody else with a novice dog have it get up as you return to it in a down stay for a change of positions??
ness
Yep I got one of those Ptolomy but I still say Kenz has been having private emails with Beans or at least somebody must have flicked her that video of Beans and the not dropping .
JulesP
Amber was sitting up on me returning from a down stay. Is that what you mean? I just did a bit of returning and walking past her, so she didn't know what I was doing. Anticipation in a smart pup can be a problem, lol. The Spotted Devil
Anybody else with a novice dog have it get up as you return to it in a down stay for a change of positions?? No, but only because I KNOW Zig loves to anticipate (I can see the cogs turning - how do I get that reward faster???) so I have worked incredibly hard on being unpredictable and 'accidentally' turning my shoulders, for example in a finish, then rewarding him for not responding until I actually give a hand signal. His breeder did warn me too
RubyStar
Anybody else with a novice dog have it get up as you return to it in a down stay for a change of positions?? Nope, that is one problem we haven't had and I thought I'd seen them all! But don't you go and jinx me for this weekend now, ok!! I have however had a dog who gets up as I leave a few times, especially if my signal wasn't clear enough :D

RallyValley
I am pretty certain I know which breed I am getting for the next one but I want at least 4 titles between the 2 boys and 3 years before I start seriously looking. :D RS I suppose you have your girls at a maintinence level now so you could if you wanted. RubyStar
You've already planned out how many titles you want first? :D So what breed did you decide on? Toller? You'll probably get a new pup before me! And I thought you were much, much longer than that away for the next one! Ermm nope mine aren't in maintenance mode, not by a long shot!! New pup when/if that ever happens! But I would so love a pup to start fresh with But I will enjoy the blank slate so much more when I can put most of my focus on the new pup and "maintain" the other two Edited October 6, 2010 by RubyStar
Lemonlime
Better join this thread with my 6 month old monster :D This week I am teaching him targetting. Any suggestions for foundation exercises for a young dog? He currently knows sit, stand, down, stay on leash, attention ("look") and a couple of tricks. I saw a great video posted by Leopuppy on teaching heel position on a round mat, might give that a go too.
