RubyStar
I hate allergies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p :o Jedi flunked his novice trial today with 30 seconds to go in the down stay. He lifted his chest up to scratch his neck and then lay back down. *sigh* Gah!!! How devastating!!!!! There was a poor girl in our CCD ring yesterday who was on a pass, and we were returning to the dogs after the down stay and when she reached her dog, it sat up The poor girl!!!! At least he was enthusiastic - I would rather lose points because my dog was too enthusiastic than because they were demotivated and lagging etc! Ditto. If Ruby is lagging and disinterested, I tend to pull her out. Those rounds really upset me as I know she's capable of more Then there is yesterday where she was back to being happy and enthusiastic to be out there, so much in fact that she ran off to greet the stewards standing as figure 8 posts. I continued as she was just happy to be out there. Just means I need to work harder on proofing distractions. The rest of her round was pretty good :p

Her heel work was very nice I know there is a reason the trial ring is Daisy's most unreliable place to work - my bloody nerves The last trial we did I was a lot less nervous as it was trial number three within two weeks and I felt like I had a better handle on it. Naturally it was Daisy's best trial to date - still very average work for her as I know she is capable of so much more, if I don't blow it up
Tiggy
I haven't trialled my dogs yet but when I showed horses I use to get so nervous I didn't enjoy it, stupid nerves :p .

Tiggy I was the same, I stopped competing with my horse as I just did not enjoy it ( neither did the horse) and I also stopped because the people were just too competitive and were so nasty to one another. Tiggy
I'm working through the agility right from the start book and in the chapter training yourself it has exercises to do to improve your treat delivery, I'm thinking this is easy enough click ... treat I know how to do that, yeah right I felt so unco . So you anchor both hands at your waist, treat with the nearest hand and can hold multiple treats in that hand and practice delivering one at a time, hold clicker and refill treats in the other hand, when you refill the treating hand that hand stays still and you bring the other hand over(that one was hard), and remain neutral. I'm having a brain meltdown.

sas
Update: Sit close on recalls are going great now! Thanks to everyone for their help! Each week though he seems to be forgetting how to do something he's always known how to do! Last night whenever I said Drop, he'd sit and then look at me *bangs head* must try not to get frustrated. So close to trial date now and I'm not sure why this is happening, maybe because I'm putting more pressure on him without realising it?
ness
sas welcome to the things always break down in the couple of days prior to a trial. Depending on how badly the dog wants to mess with yout it can be any time after you have posted the entry but right up until 48 hours prior to the trial (and thats only because I don't train 24 hours prior to a trial for fear I'll break something else :D ). Relax and enjoy and there is always the next one. The first trial is always the hardest - after that its a downhill run ;) .

LOL I'm not a stressy person but now I'm having a little freak! *paper bag* I only do short sessions every 2 days to try not to do his head in, the session might only be 2 minutes or less if he did something great. My Trainer wants me to change my drop training now and I think that is what I'm freaking about as I don't want to change things this close to trial but if it's not working then I should change? ness
Tough one sas - I would only change what I was doing if what I was changing to was likely to provide the results I wanted eventually. I would not use an upcoming trial as a reason for either sticking with what I was doing or changing something. If I thought it was worth changing and it wasn't resolved by the trial then there is always another trial.
sas
I think my prob is an expectation of a pass and I'll be guttered if I don't get one. I'm sure a few NQ's will help me settle down LOL Because this anxiety isn't going to help the dog! LOL Edited August 24, 2010 by sas
bedazzledx2
Nup! Just happens usually when you post your entries!!! Suddenly its like 'never seen that signal before!' doh!!!! No, he's been totally weaned off cortisone. He hasn't had, or needed steroids in months. He is on pulse therapy antibiotics (most of his itching now comes directly from his folliculitis) so I have modified the days he gets his pulse so that it coincides better for our trials. I have come to the realisation that Jed will never be itch-free and these things will happen every now and then, and we just have to keep on trucking! Just a 50:50 ratio with water in a bottle and then pour over after bath, scrap off excess water and then dry. We haven't had Folliculitis for years thank heavens, however this did help last time we had it. The same ratio in a Spray Bottle too for day to day use. Obviously not to be used on open wounds etc.
