I have my yellow and choc Labs, and my next pair I want a red merle and blue merle Aussie

Would get the next matching pair (separately of course!) in the next few years to add to my current pack if I could :D

LOL Fran I used to be really self conscious about being in the video but 12 months on and 60 odd videos later I'm over that now :rolleyes: I still cringe seeing myself but now it's more due to my shitty handling than anything else :D

Those come after the Aussies :D Or when I find a millionaire husband that will let me quit work, we buy a yuuuuuuuuuuuge property, and I can have my farm of dogs :D

Hi all, thought I'd join in here. It's Luuka and my 3rd night of obedience tonight (first night was just hearing the rules lecture). Last week, she was so great, I was nearly teary The instructor came over to me while the rest of the dogs were being settled into their sits and said "I hope you are going to trial her, she is very focused on you and her movements are very precise. You're doing really well and you both look like you're having a lot of fun". :D I couldn't have been happier. I even got to help a young boy in the class who was struggling with his dog I would really like to be a volunteer trainer there one day.

Can't wait for tonight! So different to when I first started training with Atlas, I would dread it, then come home in tears :D

TBH I don't really care, I don't care about sex either, temperament will be the number one decider for me.

I wouldn't mind a tri colour and statistically I am more likely to end up with a tri, but I would be happy with either as long as I get a confident drivey pup.

I was starting to think the sex of the pup wouldn't matter to me either, but, I have to admit, I am a sucker for the girlies. It's all I've ever had. Had a boy dog growing up though, the one and only (he was Mum's dog) and I can't really say he made me want a boy dog.

I must be weird because I really like different dogs rather than matching ones! Our next will probably be something like a puli :D

Ava is doing really well with her obedience but I can't see us trialling any time soon as she still has to grow a brain, and I need to get my handling skills up to par as she is ridiculously in tune with body language. Once I raised my hand to cover my mouth when I coughed and she did a "spin" :rolleyes:

I know this has been discussed before at some point, but how does everyone hold the leash for heeling on leash, when your dog is still learning and still needs a lot of praise/rewards/reinforcement? I'm finding it really difficult to get it right.

We have two girls already but Micha is such a wonderful dog, I don't think I could have more than one boy dog at a time because he is so special to me (not that that makes any sense I am sure!). If I didn't have a dog a male would probably be my first preference. Micha is just so easy to live with!

TBH I do a lot of training off leash or with a long line attached so I don't have to hold anything. If I was holding the leash in one hand though it would probably be my right hand.

If you remind me on Sunday, we can have a look at what you're doing, and see if we can come up with some alternatives for you to try. I think with the way you and Ava are going, you'll be looking at trialling before you know it!

FranCQ, I also know what you mean; I'd only really trained my Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and training with my 'loves-to-work' herding breed Cardi is so completely different, and so much fun. I'm glad to hear you're already planning to trial. I think its easier if you have it in the back o f your head from the start.

Thanks CleoJ, I will definitely remind you I am only just getting used to treating from my left hand, but have been doing some work on that throughout the week, so hopefully that will help.

Huski - I totally agree about having a slightly 'unusual' obedience dog... people don't neccessarily expect you to do anything special, so it's good when you do well! The kudos is there... whereas with a working/drivier breed like Banjo, people kind of just expect him to be good!

I'm planning on hopefully entering my first CCD trial in Sept/Oct this year... eep! Have a few things to lock down before we do that but here's hoping!

Lincoln is going to his breeders next week and staying there till September and will hopefully be getting some hunting training ( ) he will be shown there and then they are driving him to the Adelaide Royal. Which is much less stressful then fly in Thursday night, show Friday.

I am gonna miss him though.

Oh know you're going to miss your baby but it sounds like a great opportunity for him . Are you still going to the Adelaide Royal yourself?

Did you go to agility training Monday night? I feel bad because I keep saying I'm going but Banjo's had sore paws from allergies and he was limping Monday. He's fine with the gentler obedience though so will definitely go to the Rally classes.

Most people don't even know what my breed is let alone expect anything from them, unless maybe I went to a retrieveing trial and even then its unlikely.

I am gonna miss him so much! Yeah I am still going over to handle him at the show/ watch some obidience/ enjoying Adelaide (the miniscule part of it I will see )

I don't really do agility on Mondays with Toby because of him ever going to be learning contact equipment makes it hard to get much out of training. On Thursdays they usually have jumping runs up so I train then. Plus I have some plans for Monday nights I am not ready to reveal yet... just that I might have roped another DOLer in that may soon be joining us in the training talk thread. ;)
