RubyStar
If I train at home (inside or outside) I work on the finer details such as fronts, finishes, back end awareness/pivoting, sometimes scent discrimination, dumbell hold, stays Oh and now I will be adding contact training for agility and weaving out the back. I just need more nights of the week
kathq
Nearly all new exercises are taught inside in the kitchen - dont ask me why. When more distance is required the family room comes into it. The only thing not practiced is jumping. Cant understand why other half draws the line at full jumps set up inside Once taught then polish. Seita
Does anybody else train inside at nighttime when they haven't managed to get to the oval in the arvo?If so, what sort of things do you do? I'm more likely to train inside first thing in the morning cos I don't like the cold!! But yes I do, much to OH's disgust, I tend to work on turns, finishes, fronts, presents from odd angles, small bits of heelwork around the house (I can do a circle through the lounge, dining, kitchen and hallway which helps), and I often to scent inside too cos I can't convince the OH to come outside to help me with it so I allow him to sit in the recliner and throw the articles he's scented onto the rug instead! I don't train anything inside that may cause my dog to leap around like a fool or have to run after something as when she gets into these states she tends to forget everything else that's around her and things break! Just the other night OH was doing something with her and she bumped into a shelf stand thingy and smashed a trophey she won last year by accident! I hope she means to say that she's going to smash the score she got when she won that trophey (196)
RallyValley
Quick question for obiience people I was talking to a local retrieveing whiz who uses Shirley Chong's retrieve method to teach her dogs to retrieve for obidience/retrieving. I don't have a dumbell but am thinking, because the criteria of a dumbell is very clear (because of the bell/bit) would it be better to initially teach retrieve with a dumbell rather then a canvas bumper? Or could they be interchanged and the dumbell taught after the dog already has a retrieve?

I would think it would be easier to go the other way - teach retrieve with the dumbell first and then move to the bumper.

RubyStar
At the shop at K9, valley I bought mine from some online place, can't remember the name. But will buy my next one from the K9 shop when I start trialling in Open (as my current one Millie found in my bag ages ago and thought it was a chew toy ) If you want a wood one, like amy says, that website sell them. But be careful what type of wood you get, the one I brought from there the edges chipped very badly from general use (was only thrown on grass and wasn't a mouthing issue!) Get a hard wood one if you don't want to go plastic.
ness
I swapped to plastic after my BC sized wooden DB was blown back at me after a trial in WA.
