Weatherbeeta Type Coats - Cleaning Tips?

Does anyone here have special tips or tricks for getting these sort of dog coats nice and clean? I'm just starting to sort through coats for the Salukis with nights getting colder.

Trouble is they've generally been pulled off by the other dogs (read moster-coat-wrecking Borzoi girls!) and either buried or dragged through mud etc. I wasn't sure whether soaking in napisan etc would do them more harm than good.

Any ideas?

I think you are supposed to hand wash them (or maybe not wash them at all for the waterproof ones??) but I have put mine through a gentle cycle with wool-wash and they've come up fine.

Technically they shouldn't be washed if you want them to remain waterproof. However I've washed their rugs before and the horse destroyed them well and truly before the waterproofing was lost, after a couple of winter seasons.

Wash them in the machine and paint them with rug resealer.

Certainly was, I would be more than happy to buy more anytime!

There are plenty of places that wash and repair horse rugs, I'm sure they'd do a dog rug cheap

I use the WB Kennel rugs and the Landa Rug, have thrown both types in the machine many times no probs.

I think I did shrink the velcro band on one in the tumble dryer though. My tumble dryer runs very hot, however.
