It's not the matings it's the quality of the dogs which is important. I think this is an excellent & true statement. All of it. With regard to wolves, stallions and in fact any wild animal really, their very survival is based on survival of the fittest/strongest/healthiest. And it's their own instinct which leads to them breeding and who they breed with. Domestic dogs don't (usually) have a choice in the matter so I believe comparing them to wild species is irrelevant.
