Last year at the royal the judge told the exhibitor behind me very loudly to stop running up my rear end & to do the runs again without playing games

Thats good!! i like knowing that all judges arnt letting people get away with these things - especially at the big events such as the royals!!

That sort of interference is still covered by the double handling rule. As it is interfering with the dog. Just tell them to back off or you'll lodge a complaint against them. See if they don't back off even though you probably won't put in the complaint. Poker bluff.

When all else fails, turn your dog in a circle, brushing against the nose of their dog - appologise in a loud voice and comment on the lack of space to stack your dog 'I'm so sorry, I just didn't see you soooooo close behind me'

I have done the moving forward thing only to have the team behind follow me forwards!

When I'm running my dog in, I always make sure to leave room in front of the dog/bitch I'm behind, as with stacking the dog, I always try to leave as much room in front of the dog I'm behind. I get very annyoed when people of the same breed delibratly run their dogs up the ars of your dog. I see it happen in many breeds and find it rude on behalf of the exhibitor doing this.

I must admit though, once (by accident - in no intention of mine) accidently stood too close to a puppy infront of me trying to ge my boys attention, but it is something I try not to do as I don't like it being done to me.

Many times it's a case of handlers doing it inadvertantly.

I have witnessed handlers in such a tissy about their own dog they don't hear the judges instructions or notice where the other dogs in the ring are.

I have spoken up, I was handling a dog for someone else and it was slower on the move than expected. The person behind kept running up my dogs rear so I took the smaller circle only to have them follow. As the dog I was handling was upset by having a dog so close up that I said to the other person to give me more room (while we were both running around). The other person got upset with me saying I was accusing them of doing it on purpose, when my sole aim was to get them off my dogs arse long enough to allow the tail to get up. I didn't think it was on purpose, I think they were just not paying attention.

Sometimes when my dogs are almost stood on by others I tend to say "Are you right there?" to draw attention to the situation.

Very few times have I thought it was intentional, alot of people are just not terribly "present" or aware in the ring.

I consider dog showing as a sport. A dog show is a competition. There will be fair and unfair competitors. The true winners wont mind someone playing unfair. I am not showing in Australia, but in Europe was the same. The newcomers start at the smaller shows. Learn all the ins and outs and then join the big league. Like in every sport. I know is harsh but like in every sport. I worked in the industry as a dog trainer for 20 years. On some dogs we had 5 trainers preparing them for shows. And yes there was unfair play during the shows. It is up to the judge to see it and control. I remember one dog was removed from a major competition from a judge. On all the shows after that, everyone was playing fair.

Seriously though, I had someone running close behind me in a class recently making a hell of a racket with calling, hissing and whistling, apparently to their dog... It was really hard to keep mine moving forward. Needless to say the other dog doing the chasing moved out much better than mine who was trying to turn around the whole time and see what the hell was going on. Sigh...

So I'm feeling your frustration Diva.

The other thing I've noticed in this style are thumpers: people who stomp around a ring like an elephant in clogs to try and spook/distract your dog. We don't have any locally but there is one who travels in every now and then.

If you have some problems with people parking up your rear at a show I'll make sure to bring some of my mum's rissoles and fruit cake to a show . In a word.....windy.

Hey. I just naturally sound like that. Combine it with the gasping for breath on the third time around and I can probably distract anyone

I'll skip the rissoles but I do like a good fruitcake...
