Pet Insurance Claim

I'm with Bow Wow Meow and the only claim I've made since the policy was taken out was sent to them in December and they still haven't paid up. I won't be renewing my dogs policies with them.

They said the reason for the delay is that the Vet Specialist Centre hasn't sent my dog's previous history to them. I've explained there is no previous history. My dog had emergency surgery for a ruptured disc and he's never been there before so they can't provide a previous history that doesn't exist.

I've explained the nature of a Specialist Centre to them in that they accept patients only on referral from a vet. This seems to be a concept they can't understand even when I compared it to the situation with human medical specialists. Insurance Ombudsman will be next if they keep delaying payment.

It depends who you're with. I'm with PetPlan and just received a letter for a recent claim this week for paperwork they received on 19 January! So they're not even acknowledging claims for about a month!!!! :o Once it's acknowledged it hasn't taken too long - a week or two (from experience previous claims).

Other companies I've heard have been MUCH faster.

Bow Wow Meow denied having received my claim when I rang them 3 weeks after I sent it in. That was until I told them I had a signed receipt that they had received my documents by registered mail. They immediately 'found' the claim but said it had only arrived that day. Told them the receipt was dated 3 weeks earlier. Their BS never stops.

I've kept a copy of everything I've sent them including my covering letter to explain all enclosed documents in two or three syllable words in the hope they are able to comprehend. Surely all their staff can't be as dense as they appear to be.

When I first phoned them they told me I didn't have a policy with them though I had the policy document in front of me. From then on it's all been on a downhill slide.
