I have just been watching the show and have been sickened by what I have just seen. They have just taken 120 dogs from a puppy farm and the condition some of them are in has left me speechless.

The standard poodle they just clipped off was worse then anything I have seen.

God I hope these people get what they have coming :whisper::party:

140 + taken in all (ie ALL of their dogs - they went back for the remaining 24). About 100 were rehomed. The jerks were fined $9,000 - not nearly enough in my opinion - and banned from owning more than 3 dogs in NSW. What the??? They shouldn't have ANY dogs ANYWHERE. When are they going to jail these creeps?????

Meanwhile the standard poodles story (pepe/Pippin) was totally inspiring.

How did you know all that when I only just watched it? Also where do I read about the standards?

I just saw the end of the show so that answered my question, thanks

I have a question about the poodle - the RSPCA officers were saying it was very frightened, distressed, un socialised and close to being a fear biter..

I am not a behaviourist - i have been around animals / dogs all my life though. To me (just my opinion) the dog was no where near what they were claiming it to be. The poodle was barking, but certainly not a fear bark.. If you watch the dog it barks / howls and then lifts its head and sort of turns away. When its doing this, it is loosing eye contact. If it was as suggested the dog would not take its eyes off you.. I thought the dog was not bad at all. A little stand offish maybe.. I think they label dogs this and that to make the show more appealing..

I think it very well could be un socialised with humans, but its actions were only a natural reaction most dogs would do towards strangers.

I would be interested to hear opinions from Professional Behaviourists. I may be way of course..

The puppy farm was disgusting and there were a few dogs that were visually in poor health. There were a lot that visually seemed ok.

The $9000 fine was no where near enough and they should have been banned from owning dogs all together!

I am watching it now- i think its a real shame they didn't give the 15 dogs euthed any time to adjust.. To be euthanased on entry to a shelter because they were highly stressed is unfair IMO. Haven't got to the fear biter bit.

ETA The disgusting condition of the poodles is mind blowing- poor dogs.

This made me feel as though I was going to throw up.

How on earth can anyone have 140 dogs living in the house. Not possible to care for them all in any way.

Can not understand why they have not been totally banned from owning any animal. This was as bad as it gets.

The standard poodle was not so bad behaviour wise. I have had a rescue much worse than him who was not kept anywhere near as bad, although it was not good. Lovely to see him thrive & happy. The coat made me very upset.

A blind man would have known that was cruel.

I hope the general public watching now have more understanding of where their cavoodle, oodle or whatever she guessed they were, come from now.

Absolutely cruel & disgusting. Where did they get all those dogs from in the 1st place ?

All looked to be pure bred from what I could see so obviously selling the pups off as first crosses.

Totally agree. I'm really annoyed because I forgot it was on, sounds like an interesting episode.

No $9,000 is not enough, not enough to cover the cost of all those who had to clean up the appalling mess, try to clean up the dogs and puppies, to cover the cost of rehabilitating them, going to court, and worst of all, the damage done to innocent animals by people who disgust me to the point of wanting to throw something.....

Pip (was peppi) was so lucky. I thought it would take so much more time, but his foster carer must be an amazing woman to have won his trust, and the girls who adopted him had him looking like a newie! I could hardly believe it was the same dog we saw at the start....., and looking so happy and free...

why was it allowed to go on for so long?? and that @#$*& of a woman left the others to it!! in that pigsty with no food or water??

Good point. I noticed when they were clipping the poor fella he was screaming and crying (it made Tango go barking off into the lounge room to rescue the distressed doggie!!! :driving::mad ) but he made NO ATTEMPT to bite and was not muzzled.

They said he was in pain due to how bad the coat is.

Which also made me wonder why they didn't sedate him. A distressed dog in pain - surely it would have been kinder to knock him out instead of putting him through all that. NO wonder he was making high pitched barking noises later - he was probably still telling them off!!!! :provoke:

But MY GOSH didnt he look beautiful at the end - hard to believe it was the same dog.

I was thinking the same.. seriously they certainly good of given the dogs some time to adjust and when she said they were biting and scratching! Surely scratching isn't a reason to PTS...

I was glad to hear the inspector say that the lack of socialisation which goes into puppy farm dogs, is up there with neglect as a huge problem. And showing the outcomes....dogs with signs of extreme fear around humans. It was also good that they showed the intense rehabilitation that has to be put into such dogs.....while hoping to god, it works.

I was interested in the specialist carer's work with the standard poodle & the huge progress he made. From being terrified witless, to being a biddable & happy dog. It was interesting how that carer explained the use of a training belt & rewarding the dog for walking beside her around the house.

I also liked the way the inspectors emphasized the ignorance of just letting dogs mate, with no decisions about selections or numbers of litters.

The public needs heaps more education of that kind. So they learn that 'idea' companion dogs have to be developed by responsible people who know what they're doing re selection for breeding & socialisation....as well as physical care. And the public needs to know that dogs that have been failed across all of those, can be in such a state that they're PTS.

Most of all the public needs to reflect on the fact that, if they don't check the actual source & circumstances, when buying a puppy.....they could be buying a puppy produced in horror conditions like this.

I didn't see the episode but $9,000 for 140 puppy farm dogs??? :mad Would be pocket change to an establishment like that..... it's something like $64 per dog :provoke:

Considering what poor Judy with the Tibbies is up for that is f***ing disgusting!!!!! How about RSPCA working harder on the laws and minimum sentences/punishments for the people who are REALLY cruel.

Of course, after seeing this on the tv, more people will go to donate thinking they are helping :driving: Hopefully it will open a few more eyes about puppy farms.....

That poodle was far from a severe fear case from the footage shown. His transformation was fantastic- just a shame some of the other dogs didn't get that opportunity.

What signs did you see that led you to that conclusion?

I'm no expert on behaviour, but I found it interesting.

I have no idea who 'the other dogs' were.

It highlighted the fact that dogs face being PTS as a result of puppy farming.....with socialisation issues being up there as bad as lack of physical care. Such a change to hear the word 'socialisation' appearing in media accounts.

The dogs distress at being groomed only indicates that the dog has either never been groomed before or that the dog is in pain- in this case both of these things would have been factors as well as a strange place, separation from dogs etc. I don't understand why they did not sedate the dog to carry out the grooming. Then showing a dog barking in a kennel with a camera crew present- many many dogs would do this. They then showed the dog quietly standing near the staff member. Under socialised and stressed- absolutely. Extreme fear- from the footage shown, no.

The other dogs i refer to are the 15 that were pts on entry to the shelter because of their behaviour.

I do think the socialisation message was great- lets hope people listened to that.
