Where Do You Get Your Clicker From?

Im embarking (sp?) on clicker training, the trainer gets her clickers from england but i was wondering where you guys get them from im slightly nervous and exicted to learn this way of training as i have only ever used food rewards or check chains befor

I start next Tuesday so any tips or ideas you want to give me id apriciate :D

Most of the on-line pet supply places in Australia have them, and many of the bricks and mortar pet shops. They are pretty common now.

When I started using them I got a "Wonder Woman" clicker from a party supplies shop. They didn't have anything manlier than that...

Best advice I can give ........

Buy 5 clickers at a time because you put them down and can never find them again, they go through the washing machine, you leave them at training, they fall out of your pocket...... :D

I dropped my clicker yesterday and it slid under the lounge. I had to use the rolled up tv week to get it out . I like the i-click clickers by the way.

Thanks guys cant wait till thursday to make my purchase lol, i cant belive how invigorating (sp?) it is knowing im going to learn somthing new.

Yep - another vote here for i-clicks - easy to juggle in the hand, and treats don't get stuck down in the box like they do with the box clicker. And the noise is nicer, I think.

Back in the day, just about the cheapest were in bulk - I used to get 5 at a time ( Ptolomy) from Karen Pryor's store - but yes, you can get them locally now.

The only interesting thing I have found with the i-clicks is there can be quite a difference in volume level between them. Even ones from the same place can vary.

I prefer my i-click but brought one from Coles to leave in the car just in case I left my good one at home. Most people have good shoes or cloths I have my good clicker & the one to use around the paddock pretty sure this is the only place I can say that & not get funny looks . Have fun SBT303 it's a great way to train .

I buy 50 at a time from clean run, I misplace heaps of them but I know I can find one in any room, car, etc. I am forever giving them to people too.

I have lost my iClick. Luckily I have two other box clickers and a click-a-stick. Still, I miss my iClick. Where are you, iClick??

I think the two places that you are most likely to trip up with clicker training to begin with is timing and reward rate. Remember to keep the reward rate nice and high (like, click/treat every couple of seconds on new things) and get used to looking for small details, even a shift of weight.

My timing still leaves a bit to be desired, but we're getting there. I like recording my training sessions so I can look back on them and see how inconsistent my signals and clicking are. It's very humbling.

I don't generally clicker train, but when I do I use an i-clicker.

Don't be nervous about it SBT303. It is basically about 'clicking' at the place and time that you might normally say "yes" (ie the exact moment the dog does a behaviour that you want to reinforce so that he/she will repeat and learn it).

It does help in improving people's timing of reinforcement. But I sometimes find that people stop using body language (eg. facial expression) when they use the clicker. I like using body language and facial expression with training. But that's me .

A little bit OT but for you guys using clickers, Im curious, do all clickers make the same click, like as iin the same click tone and if not do the dogs stiill respond to a different tone click. For example if you have been using a clicker for dog training for say 6 months, then you lost your clicker and had to get a new one but different brand that had a different sounding click would the dog still respond to the click. I guess now that I think about it, it would possibly be the same if someone else was training my dogs and using words such as yes and good where Id use them. Suppose I have answered my own question.

Mine all cope with whichever clicker I am using. Box clicker and iclick do sound quite different but it doesn't sweem to cause too much trouble, although I do try to use just 1 while conditioning it then once they get it they seem to generalise it fine.

Some people worry about dogs responding to other peoples clickers but none of mine have done that, they may flick an ear at the start of class but soon tune it out and only respond to mine.

I have used different sounding clickers and found no difference to my dogs response.

I have heard that some dogs don't lke the box clicker sound as it's a bit louder but I have not found this.

Well some of us have to buy them in job lots!!!!! I buy heaps.....lose them....buy more....and then find them again....Jackpot!!!! ;)
