Tiggy
I'm wondering what people use at training/trials to contain their dogs. I tried out the large crate today to see if the two dogs would fit in together just for short periods when out and no they didn't fit . I do have a giant crate they fit in together but it weighs a tonne. I was thinking about getting a pen maybe. I'm hoping to get a new car soon, probably a station wagon so then I'll have the back of that to use but at the moment I have a sedan and don't like to leave the dogs alone in case they wreck the car . Todays crate test .
Kavik
I use a crate. At the moment I am only trialling one dog. When I trial more than one, I will either bring two crates (so one for each) or get a pen, haven't decided yet.
poodlefan
If all the dogs are with me, I use a Ccrates Securapen and a show trolley.
TerraNik
I can fit two of my dogs in the one crate (they are quite happy in there together!) and I do that when we're at training (saves me carrying two crates!). For trials and shows I keep them separate in their own crate.
MrsD
I use a crate, 2 if I am training both. If we have the trailer with us (as we did at last night's trial) I will transfer him to his crate about 15 mins before our turn in the ring. My dogs know that being let out of the crate is when the good stuff happens, so they are always super keen to get back in there so they can come out again , so it would pretty much defeat the purpose if I kept them in the car or trailer all the time. skip
I seem to be collecting stuff as I go along. I use a crate like yours pictured in the car. So if it is cool I open the back hatch and use this at training. Or if it is hot or the car is not close I might use a collapsable canvas crate for training. At a trial particularly if I am there all day I have a larger pen. THis pen is maybe too big really for my 2 but I also use it on hols when I need to lock them up and will be gone for a couple of hours. It is a large cage that folds up and has a lid but no bottom on opening. Very common type seen at lots of comps. But it very big and only fits on the roof racks so I don't use it too much. From your pic I think your dogs like mine must get on OK. I sense another crate coming?

Ptolomy
Tiggy - you go and do what most of us do - and that is buy a purpose built car just to take to trials
RubyStar
I use my car as much as possible for training/trialling, the dogs are more comfortable there. But if for some reason I can't park close enough, I will resort to my crate. I have a metal one that is too heavy to lug everywhere, so I bought a collapsible canvas type one but stupid me got one a bit too big so the portability factor wasn't greatly reduced when I switched Both my girls will fit in it but I think when the day comes when I am trialling both, I will either use the car for both of them or crate them separately! Casima
I don't know about over your way, but most of the trials I go to I either can't park near enough the rings to keep my dogs in the car, or its too hot to leave the dogs in the car, or the car is too close to the rings and the remaining dogs would bark when I took one dog for a run as they can see. I use a pen and put all my 3 in together (and sometimes my Mum's dog too) my pen has no roof and folds up quite small, easily fits in my corolla and only weights about as much as 1 medium wire dog crate I love my pen! I made a cover to put over it so that my dogs can't see the rings and they all wait quietly in their pen when not trialling/training. I recommend getting a pen with a built in door on one panel. I also just bought a 2nd hand show trolley with cover, as I'm now trialling 3 ;) dogs and I often have ring clashes with 2 different dogs in 2 rings, I can wheel the trolley over and leave 1 dog covered and waiting making dog swaps quick and stress free. Vickie
I have a crate in the back of my car all the time. I also take a softcrate with me to trials. My 2 girls are always crated together at trials, either from the car if I can, or in the soft crate near the ring. If we are away for the weekend, I take an XPen, if I have to take more than 2 dogs, I take 2 Xpens & join them together. I also take a cover for the crates to put on while I am actually in the ring so the other dog can't see.
whitka
I have a crate which my boy loves but my girl hates, she is much happier being tied up which im not keen on doing.
Seita
I use soft crates cos I sick to death of carrying around the heavy wire ones. If I need a strong crate for a dog in future I think I'll use my show trolley instead as I can chuck everything into it and then wheel all my stuff in near the rings! But in the mean time the soft crates and light weight to carry in and strong enough to contain a dog that is happy being in a crate!
Tiggy
I don't really trust the soft crates with strong breeds. I might get two smaller crates to put them in.
pie
Tiggy - Don't know what size you need but Deals Direct have some. http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/c/pet-suppli...es-and-kennels/ Although I think they are making good use of the space in the first shot :D
Seita
I don't really trust the soft crates with strong breeds. I might get two smaller crates to put them in. Fair enough.... I'd suggest you invest in one of those fold out trolley things... similar to the solid trolleys they use for carting boxes and stuff around on but the handles slide down to make it nice and compact! That way if you do have to walk your stuff in a bit it won't be so damn awkward or heavy! :D

Tassie
I don't really trust the soft crates with strong breeds. I might get two smaller crates to put them in. - with good reason Tiggy. Rory can tell you that boy Border Collies can eat their way out of soft crates - he can just demolish the mesh on the door and/or windows - but only when mum is doing agility with her other dog . I have 2 metal crates set up in the car, so if I can park close enough and the weather is OK, dogs can stay there. Otherwise I take soft crates - and if it's for agility, just get Rory's collapsible wire crate out of the car to put in the set up. Or use the show trolley. (Still need a babysitter for when I'm actually running Kirra, so he doesn't hurt his teeth :D - will stress even if the crate is covered right up.) BTW, I got my bigger metal collapsible - 2 doors - from Deals Direct - good service.
