Sardines

I've always tried to give Sam some sardines for one breakfast each week. I've tried a couple ways to do this. I used to mash up the sardines and put them with some cooked rolled oats, a slightly cooked egg and a little bit of grated cheese. I then changed to not mashing up the sardines. Sometimes he will eat them and other times leaves the sardines in the bottom of his dish. I've only been giving him half a tin at a time. Any suggestions how I can give him the sardines or any other fish alternative? I don't know if it makes any difference what the sardines are in i.e. tomato sauce, spring water or vegetable oil. I always buy him the Homebrand or equivalent.

I gave the pups some sardines when they were maybe 5 weeks old and they all walked around the bowl and looked disgusted, mean I know but it really was quite funny. Sardines were off the menu until the weekend when I found I still had some lurking in the cupboard so offered the pups some again and they were doing backflips and squeaking with excitement (sounded like a pod of dolphins) at the smell of them, then cleaned the bowls in about 10 seconds flat. Weird animals sometimes

My guys get sardines, mackerel and tuna chunks (all in oil not springwater). Being shortcoated the oil is good for their skins. Aldi have cans of mackerel in a similar can to the sardines and they love them. Maybe you need to only give your dog the sardines and not mix up the flavours so much. I haven't heard of a dog which didn't just love sardines (well, any fish and particularly those lovely ones that wash up on the beach and lay in the sun for a few days).
