Erny Posted February 2, 2010 Share Posted February 2, 2010 But, I'm watching him playing "Search" with his daddy (it's his favorite game and we discovered a new way we could get him to eat his dry food ;) ) right now with that determine look on his face and that goofy grin he has when he finds his reward. It's hard for me to be down to long, because despite the news I got, I just know that he will get better. Good for you, CWW. I'm sure you have your moments but keeping him busy being a dog helps you and him stay on track I'm sure. Fingers crossed that more tests will at last reveal some answers for you and Charlie. If he was mine I would take his medical history to both the Specialist Centre at Strathfield and the Uni of Sydney and possibly contact the Uni at Werribee in Vic as well, to see if anyone at any of them has come across a similar condition before. Sash have a lot of expertise but they only know what they have come across before. I know from friends experience with them that they certainly don't know everything about every condition and they will keep running tests and running up the bills forever, if they can't work it out. I had a foal who kept getting joint infections even on the Antibiotics and having a blood transfusion. My vet ended up paying for them to have a look (he was stumped). Also a friend of mine recently had a mouth problem and had been to 3 different vets. Same thing vet sent it down there and they got a result. Maybe worth a try. I had a second opinion on Jets leg when he injured it and it was the best thing. I will never go back to the first vet again. So I think the best thing would be a second opinion. Must less try to run away from the vet when she tried to pick him up One of the specialist said the reason for that is probably how my boyfriend and I treat him. We treat him like a dog, we keep his mind active, we still take him everywhere and we don't feel bad for him... I thought that was a nice thing to say. Don't it feel good to get some recognition on a job well done Big hugs to you both, he sounds like a real trouper! Fingers crossed for some good news soon! Poor thing has really been through the wars - but seeing he is still happy and relatively normal is a testament to the wonderful care and love he is getting. I second a referral to the ARH at Strathfield. Chloe goes there regularly for her Cushings, and I personally find them to be wonderful. I do hope that you can at least get to the bottom of what is causing Charlie to be so ill - so that you can start treatment asap and Charlie can be back to himself. We have just been to Sydney Uni Vet (the Camperdown Campus) for an orthopaedic consult and they were great. So thorough. Picked up on quite a few things my vet had not noticed (including my dog has an odd shaped pupil well actually a pupil and a bit in one eye ). Because perhaps they receive educational funding, I found them good value too. I am a believer in going to places where there is continuous research going on. They may also be able to tap into other universities' findings. They also have a campus and centre at Cobbity. W Sibs Posted February 4, 2010 Author Share Posted February 4, 2010 Another quick update... I got a phone call from the specialist yesterday. They want to put him back on medication (human mediciation that is use for people who has Osteoporosis).. it's a tablet that he will have to take once a week (knocks the poor fella out for the day though). for the life of me, I can't remember the name of the medicine and if I did, i probably won't be able to spell it. I'm in two minds of giving him the tablet or not. Due to the fact that I'm not sure if it's worth making him sick for the day, when they AREN'T sure if this is making him better or not. I feel like they are giving him this, so they feel like they are doing something? I dunno. His calcium level has gone up.. so that's good news. Still waiting for his vitamin D test to come back though. We are in the process of gathering all his medicial papers and xrays to get second and third opinions. I'm glad you are pursuing other opinions, and I'm glad Charlie is in such good and loving hands. I'm very sorry that you all have to go through this.
