Gayle.
How is he a Tri Colour with no copper? That makes him a bi Colour. Nope. He was a tri colour. If they have the straw coloured hair around their bum, they are a tri, regardless of the lack of copper points.

Oh so he still had copper points, just not visible in the other areas we expect to see them. You had to really look.
dancinbcs
Red Border Collie Bitch. This is a Chocolate Border Collie, not a red. In Aussies the colour is called red but in Borders a red is anything from cream to chestnut, not brown.

Vickie
I can't always tell the difference between BC's & Aussies & BC's & Coolies. There is such a variety in breeding that there is bound to be some overlap in appearance. There are lots of heavyset BC's around who look just like Aussies to me. I have also seen a few Coolies who look, act & work just like a BC. My girls always get mistaken for Aussies or Coolies . Even though they look nothing like Aussies in build, people see merle & assume. They don't look a lot like Australian (Show) BC's...I guess b/c they are not :D . Kirislin
I've only seen merle border collies in recent years. Certainly I dont ever recall seeing them when I was young, and I was a real dog fan even back then.
Karelea Aussies
the blue merle Border Collie is Pax's girl Rhythm - Pixie, I have been confused before by this blue Merle Border above and thought it was an Aussie. See any difference to my blue merle Aussie below?
Dame Aussie
This is our Lili, just under 2, red merle I never used to be able to tell them apart but now I have no problem Bonnie-I've had people ask if Lili was a Husky cross too, especially because one of her eyes is merled. See any difference to my blue merle Aussie below? :p I can't tell the difference Maybe a bit in the ears? The ears are more erect? Am I right? Do I get a gold star? I can't tell the difference between sibes and mallies, either, even though I'm constantly told "but there's a huuuuuge difference" ;)
Gayle.
You'd be very hard pressed to pick the differences between Aussies, BC's and Koolies as pups. I don't think their features really set until they are fully grown, and a gangly legged Aussie with big floppy ears and a fuzzy topknot could just as easily be a coolie, a BC, or from behind could be mistaken for a collie rough. When Benson was around 4 months old, he looked for all the world like a black and tan GSD puppy for a couple of weeks. And was mistaken for one on a few occasions. Jigsaw
They're different sides!! And she has darkened up a lot as she's grown up. I think the thing she looks like the most at 8 weeks is a little pig!! But very cute!

See any difference to my blue merle Aussie below? The do look similar in those two photos, I bet now that they have grown they would look very different from each other apart from the colour. PAX
Yes she is a purebred BC, I think her tan markings make people think she is an Aussie.
