Bellatrix
I need to buy some UV filters for a couple of my lenses but not sure whether the brand makes a big difference? When I bought my camera, I got two 58mm Kenko UV filters for my lens kit lenses. I will need one for my 50mm 1.8 and 100mm 2.8 macro. What brands do you use? (for those who use them). And also, down the track I was thinking of getting some polarizing filters, what brands are good with those? And finally, are lens hoods better to use than filters?? Whats everyone's stance on this? Thanks for your help! Edited January 28, 2010 by Bellatrix
kja
Hoya do good filters. Filters and hoods are two different uses. Both can protect your front element but that isn't their primary role (bar those UV filter thingos). Hoods offer reduced flare from light sources so you can control those bits of flare to get them where you want them or mostly eliminate them and can also give crisper overall images in some instances.
